Customizing Home Screens

Ryan

I love modifying my phone. It was so simple to do from the first day. My favorite part is a special clock widget. It allows me to see what hour it is where my cousin lives in Australia, so I never call him too late. I also spent time changing how the tools look on the screen. I made them all blue because it looks nice with my background picture. My friend Chloe told me to add a music widget, but I prefer using a normal app for that.

Chloe

My tablet is very useful for my daily routine. On the home screen, I have a small widget that shows the amount of battery power remaining. This helps me know when to plug it into the wall. Below that, I have a useful box with all my homework tasks. It is great because I never forget my school deadlines now. My friend Ryan has a clock widget for international times on his screen, but I do not need that because my family all live in the same town. I also do not like listening to music on my device.

Min-jun

Having widgets on my new smartphone is great, but it was quite hard to understand how to put them on the screen in the beginning. Now, I have two very useful ones. The first is a weather widget that tells me if it will rain or be sunny so I know the right things to put on before I go outside. The second is a music controller. I can tap it once to start my best songs immediately when I am walking to school. It saves a lot of time.

A Day Without Wi-Fi

Oliver

When our Wi-Fi broke yesterday, I panicked! I had a big science project to give to my teacher, but I couldn’t search for the information I needed online. I tried to look at some old science magazines, but it wasn’t enough. Because all our screens were useless, my mum and dad got an old board game out of the cupboard in the evening. We actually had a wonderful time laughing and playing together! My mates live close by, so I just saw them outside instead of chatting on the internet.

Chloe

I was really upset when the web stopped working. Every afternoon, I spend time playing English audio conversations to improve my language skills, but the sound files wouldn’t open at all. I was also very afraid that my friends were sending me important messages and I couldn’t answer them! I already finished all my homework, so that wasn’t a problem for me. However, I really wanted to see a great new movie on my smart TV that night. Sadly, the screen just stayed black!

Julian

Losing the internet for a day was terrible at first. I really needed to send some important emails, so I packed my bag and walked to the local coffee shop because they have a free wireless connection. I wanted to go to the cinema later, but I didn’t have enough cash. When I finally came back to my bedroom, I grabbed a long novel from my shelf. I spent hours following the adventure. It was actually quite nice to look at real paper pages instead of my computer for once.

Using Fitness Trackers for Sports

Oliver

My aunt got me this sports watch for my birthday last month. I wear it all day and night because it is really soft on my skin. The best thing is that if I sit on the sofa for too long, it makes a noise. It tells me to get up and walk! I am not training for any special running matches. I just use it to see how fast my heart goes during my daily jogging. The screen is large, so I never check my stats on my laptop.

Jamie

I spend a lot of time playing tennis, and I wanted to know how hard my heart was working. I bought this tracker myself. To be honest, the price was very high and I spent all my savings on it. I don’t keep it on my arm all day; I only put it on when I am playing a match. As soon as I finish my game, I connect it to my laptop. The watch screen is small, so it is better to study my health information on a bigger monitor.

Tyler

I am going to run in a 20-kilometre city competition next month. I bought this tracker online because I needed to improve my running speed before that day. It was actually quite cheap, so I bought it myself instead of asking my parents for a gift. It works perfectly and gives me great heart information on the screen while I run. However, the plastic band is not very soft. It often feels too tight and scratches my arm if I wear it for more than an hour.
