The National Library

Felix

I love visiting the national library. My apartment is just five minutes away, so it is a very short walk for me. Inside, it is completely silent. I usually sit by the huge windows. From there, I can watch the birds and the green grass in the public gardens across the street. I never bring my laptop here; I just carry my own paper books to read. I don’t get anything to listen to, either. My absolute favourite thing is just looking up at the high, painted ceilings. The place was made over two hundred years ago, and that traditional style is just so beautiful to look at.

Clara

Finding a quiet place to read is hard. My two little brothers are always playing loud games and shouting in our living room. That is why I go to the national library every Saturday. Getting there isn’t quick. I have to catch two different trains, and the trip takes nearly an hour. The building is very modern and made of glass, which is okay, but the book collection inside is amazing. I don’t sit by the windows to look outside. Instead, I always try to find texts about kings, queens, and famous events from centuries ago. Learning about how people lived back then is really interesting in such a peaceful place.

Omar

The national library is my favourite place to study. My house is perfectly quiet, so that isn’t the reason I go there. I usually visit the multimedia room. I don’t read paper texts about famous kings or queens. Instead, I always take my laptop with me so I can type up my school projects and search the web for my classes. The internet there is really fast! After I finish doing my digital tasks, I love exploring their huge collection of audio discs. You can take home lots of classic jazz and pop albums, and I always pick up a few for my weekend. It is much better than paying for them!

Volunteering at the Roman Ruins

Marco

I decided to become a volunteer at the Roman ruins last summer. My grandfather worked here for years, and he told me I should try it, so I did. At the beginning, speaking in front of a big group made me really scared, but I am fine now. We are outside all day walking around the old stones, but I don’t mind the hot sun at all. My favourite thing is taking school groups around. I enjoy it much more than talking to older people because kids ask such funny questions about the Romans!

Sofia

I absolutely love history. When I signed up to be a guide at these Roman ruins, I couldn’t just walk in and start. I spent weeks reading thick books to understand everything before they let me take my first group. Luckily, I felt completely relaxed on my first day! Now, I take tourists around the site. Only a few broken walls are left today, so I always carry drawings with me. I use them to show everyone how beautiful the city was two thousand years ago. Many tourists come from far away, but sharing the history is my favourite part.

Leo

Guiding at the ruins is a wonderful way to spend my weekends. My brother hates history, but I find the Romans fascinating! The greatest thing about this volunteering job is chatting with the visitors. I love talking to tourists who travel here from all over the world, from Japan to Brazil! I usually guide adults, but sometimes families join us. The only bad thing about being outside is that we can’t control the sky. When it rains heavily, walking around the site is actually quite hard and everyone gets very wet. You really need an umbrella!

An Exciting Escape Room Experience

Leo

I went to the new escape room with five of my best school mates on Saturday. The building is a huge, old warehouse. Inside, it was quite dark, but I thought it was exciting, not scary at all. We paid for our own tickets, and honestly, the price was very high for just an hour of fun. But we had a great time looking for hidden keys! We almost didn’t win. Luckily, we found the right answer and unlocked the final door with only ten seconds left on the clock!

Maya

My dad booked tickets for our family to try the warehouse escape room. I went with my parents and my older brother. As soon as we went inside, they turned off the lights. It was incredibly black in there, and to be honest, I felt really afraid at the beginning! The first problem was hard, but the final one was actually quite simple to answer. We worked together as a team and escaped quickly. Running around made us so hungry, so we went straight to a café for pizza and chips afterwards!

Sam

Our basketball team decided to visit the escape room together. It was a really cheap activity, which was great because we only had a little pocket money. We even bought some sandwiches to eat before we started the game! Because I am the oldest, the others chose me as their captain to give instructions and organize the group. We did really well at first, but then we reached the end of the game. Unfortunately, the math question on the wall was impossible to understand, so we never managed to open the door!
