Using Technology to Learn Languages

Ben

I love using my phone to study German. I started because I wanted to talk to people when I traveled with my mother and father last summer. The smartphone application did not cost any money, which is great! Every evening, I also enjoy watching movies with German words at the bottom of the screen. It is an amazing way to learn. I only study late at night in bed, never when I first wake up. Sometimes I try to talk to a computer program on my screen, but I do not chat with real people online yet.

Lina

Learning French is my favorite hobby. Many of my classmates study languages because they go on holiday, but I want to live in Paris in the future. To practice, I open an app to talk directly with teenagers living in France. Chatting with real people is much better than textbooks! After that, I enjoy playing fun word matches on my tablet to win points. It helps me remember difficult words. My friend told me to watch French films with English text, but I prefer listening without looking at any words on the screen.

Yuki

I think technology makes studying languages very fast. At 6:00 a.m., before breakfast, I open my laptop to study Spanish. My brain works best at that time! I don’t like playing games or matches on my computer because I think it is boring. Instead, I read news articles aloud. While reading, I record myself talking on my smartphone. Then, I play the sound file to hear if I said everything right. My online course was not free—it was quite expensive—but it is worth it.

Taking Photographs in the City Centre

Alex

I love walking around the city centre taking photos. I don’t own a big camera because it costs a lot of cash. Instead, I always use my smartphone to get the best pictures. It’s much cheaper! I usually go into town on Saturday afternoons, never before twelve o’clock, because I like to sleep. The city is full of beautiful historical places, but I prefer photographing the modern shops. I usually walk around by myself, but occasionally I invite a classmate to join me.

Ben

Taking digital photographs in the city is fantastic, but my equipment wasn’t cheap. I spend a large amount of cash on different parts for my camera! I never use my mobile to take pictures. The centre is very noisy with workers during the week, so I prefer visiting on Sundays. I always get up at six o’clock to take pictures because the morning light is beautiful. My favourite things to photograph are the city’s historical churches and castles. Sometimes I buy gifts for my family while I am there.

Chloe

I take pictures in the city centre every Tuesday. The most interesting thing for me is watching men and women catching buses or walking to their offices. I love catching those busy moments on my camera! I don’t spend any money on this hobby, so it is completely free. I always go without anyone else because I need to be quiet. When I go home, I print my favourite pictures and create lovely calendars. I give these to my parents and friends for their birthdays!

Making videos on a PC

Leo

I love recording my screen while I enjoy online matches with my friends. I bought this fantastic PC program with my pocket money last month. It wasn’t cheap, but it’s brilliant. The menus are so simple, so it only took me an hour to understand how everything works! Before this, I was quite bad at making videos. But last week, I entered a short film contest online and actually got the first prize! My teachers at school were very proud of me, even though I didn’t make the film for a class.

Maya

My older cousin has a popular video channel, and he told me to download this editing program. The best thing about it is that I got it from the internet for exactly zero pounds! I don’t use it for recording my gaming sessions because my computer is too slow. Instead, I make short films about my holidays. I try to put audio tracks in the background, but honestly, adding the right sounds is quite hard for me. It always takes me a long time to finish one video, but I enjoy the process!

Sam

When I have to do homework projects, like a history presentation, I always use my video maker. It makes my teachers really happy! The program is quite complicated at first, so I had to watch a lot of online lessons to learn it. I love adding my favorite pop and rock tracks to my films; it makes everything much more exciting to watch. My sister uses a different app on her phone, but I prefer working on a big screen. We sometimes share ideas, but we never work together on the same film.
