Keeping Bicycles in Good Condition

Jake

I love riding in the forest, so my mountain bike gets very dirty. I don’t wash it every day, maybe just once a month. However, I always store it in my bedroom! The rain can ruin the metal, so leaving it outside is a bad idea. When the chain breaks, I never pay a shop to fix it. My older brother usually gives me a hand in our garage. He is very good with machines, so it doesn’t cost me anything to keep my bicycle working perfectly. I just squeeze the tyres with my fingers to see if they need air.

Maria

Looking after a bicycle is a messy job! Before I touch the chain, I always change into a horrible old t-shirt and dark trousers. The black oil is very difficult to clean off! Whenever I return from a journey, I immediately get a bucket of warm soapy water and a sponge to remove the mud. I keep my bike in the garden, so it needs to be clean. If something breaks, I don’t ask my dad for advice. Instead, I find videos on the internet. Watching people do the steps on my tablet makes it easy.

Carlos

I only ride on the roads in my special cycling uniform. Because I don’t go in the mud, I rarely need to wash my bicycle. The most important thing for me is the air in the wheels. I bought a small digital pump, and I check the numbers on its screen every Friday. If the bike makes a strange noise, I don’t try to solve the problem myself. I prefer to take it to the repair shop in our town. It isn’t cheap, but they always do a fantastic job and return it looking like new.

Friday Evening Relaxation

Mark

On Friday afternoons, I run out of the school gates! I don’t stay at home with my parents. Instead, I always meet the boys from my class at the park. We don’t play football or run, though. We go to a café and play board games for hours. We try to see who can win the most! By seven o’clock, we are usually hungry. There is a fantastic Mexican place nearby. I love having spicy tacos or burritos there to end the week. I never go to sleep early because the weekend is finally here!

Sarah

My Fridays are all about resting after five days of studying. I don’t invite my friends over. It is just me, my mum, and my younger brothers. My dad usually cooks a big traditional British dinner like roast chicken. We never buy meals from restaurants! After we eat, we all sit on the large sofa in the living room. We usually put a comedy film on the television. We smile and chuckle a lot together! Sometimes the boys play video games, but I just sit back and relax until midnight.

Toby

By Friday afternoon, my brain is completely tired. When I get home, I don’t turn on the television or look at screens. Instead, I get my bicycle and ride around the forest near my house for an hour. Moving my legs in the fresh air makes me feel amazing. When I return, I usually bake some chocolate biscuits in the kitchen. I share them with my friends on Saturday, but on Friday evening I just eat one with some cold milk. I am usually in my pajamas and sleeping by half past eight!

Daily Pet Care Routines

Lisa

I have a large dog called Buster. He loves being outside. Some of my friends play with their dogs inside the house, but Buster is too big for that! Instead, when I finish my school lessons at 4 p.m., we usually run together in the park for an hour. Buster’s hair gets very dirty, but I don’t clean it myself. Every Saturday, I give money to a special pet shop to do it for me. I always feed him meat for dinner, never plants or vegetables.

Tom

My cat, Bella, hates going outside, especially when it rains. We always have lots of fun with a little ball in the living room. Before I leave for college, I always put the radio on for her. Listening to the talking and music keeps her happy while I am away. Bella is very clean, so I never need to take her to a pet washing shop. At night, she always jumps up and lies down next to my feet under my blanket.

Nina

I have a lovely white rabbit named Snow. She lives in a large metal cage in my bedroom. She never comes out to sleep on my bed! Before I have my breakfast at 7:00 a.m., I always remove the dirty newspaper from her cage and put in fresh stuff. Rabbits love eating carrots, but I also pick a lot of green grass and leaves from the yard for her meals. Sometimes she listens to me play the piano, but she usually prefers it when it is quiet.
