Balancing School and a Cafe Job
Anna
I serve customers at a busy cafe. I chose this place because it takes me two minutes to walk there from my classroom. It is very convenient! I never go to the café from Monday to Friday because I need those evenings for my history reading. I only do my shifts on the two days at the end of the week. My manager is nice, but she always wants me to do more hours. I always tell her no because my education is the most important thing. I usually complete my projects on Sunday night after I finish earning money.
David
Balancing my job and school is quite difficult. I serve coffee four evenings a week, and my shifts usually finish after 10 p.m. Because of this, I am often very sleepy in my first morning classes! I usually try to do my homework when I get home, but I am too tired. Next month, I will ask to do fewer days so I can focus on my exams. Thankfully, the person in charge of the café is great. He always asks about my lessons and lets me leave early if I have a big test the next day.
Maria
I have a brilliant routine for my cafe job and my schoolwork. I work every afternoon, but I finish all my reading and math exercises at home first. Then, I put on my uniform and catch the bus to work. The cafe is quite far from my school, but I don’t mind. Sometimes, it gets very quiet. When I have a free half hour, I sit at a table with a hot drink and write my essays. My boss is strict and never lets us leave early, but he doesn’t mind if I read my books while I rest.

Getting Ready for a Sports Match
Tom
I usually play football on Saturday mornings. I hate rushing, so I put my boots and water bottle in my backpack on Friday evening. My dad always drives me to the stadium in his car because it is far. I never eat a small snack; I need a big breakfast like eggs and toast to give me energy. Just before I leave the house, I always put on my favorite yellow socks. I wore them during my best game, and I believe they help me win!
Diego
Getting ready for a basketball game is fun. I wake up and immediately put on my team shirt. Then, I do a short run in the garden to wake up my legs. I like to play loud, fast pop songs because the noise makes me feel ready to win! I don’t have a big meal, but I always have some chocolate or a banana before I leave. I walk to the sports hall, and I usually stop at the shop to get some cold juice for the journey.
Harry
I often feel quite worried before a big tennis match. Because of this, I sit in my bedroom and play quiet songs on my phone. It really stops me from feeling nervous! I don’t prepare my bag early; I prefer to throw my racket into my bag on the morning of the game. I don’t go to the tennis club with my parents. Instead, I catch the bus with the rest of the team. We don’t practice at home, but we run together when we arrive at the courts.

Choosing Birthday Gifts
Toby
When a friend’s birthday is coming, I never chat with their parents to ask what they need. Instead, I always check their photo pages online to see their new hobbies. It is the best way to understand what they are into right now! Also, I usually select items that I really enjoy. If I think a new video game or a cool hat is brilliant, I will get it for my mate. I am terrible at drawing and painting, so I don’t make anything myself. I just go to the shopping centre!
Elena
I hate buying normal things from supermarkets. I prefer to use my hands to make something special, like a photo book or a painted cup. My friends know I spend a lot of time on their presents. Actually, I never wait until the last day. I start getting things ready months in advance! Sometimes, I don’t give them a box with a present inside at all. Instead, I pay for us to see a film at the cinema or eat at a nice café together. I don’t check their web pages for ideas, I just know what they love.
Marcus
I am really bad at remembering dates, so I usually go to the shops on the actual day of the party! Because I am always in a hurry, I always speak to my friend’s brother or sister to find out what they really want. They always have great advice! I don’t give my friends trips to the zoo or concert tickets. I prefer to give them an item they can put in their bedroom. However, I enjoy finding silly things that will make them smile and laugh. Giving them a boring shirt is just not my style!
