A Late Night of Studying

Mark is fourteen years old and usually goes to bed at 10:00 p.m. However, tonight is different. He has a very important math test tomorrow morning. Mark is feeling quite nervous because he really wants to join the advanced science club next year, and he needs a high mark in math to do that.

At half past eleven, the house is completely quiet. Mark’s parents are already asleep. Mark is sitting at his desk, drinking hot chocolate to stay awake. He is practising some difficult math problems. He tries to remember all the rules, but he keeps writing the wrong numbers on his paper.

At midnight, Mark decides to send a message to his best friend, David, to ask for help. Surprisingly, David answers immediately. But David isn’t studying; he is playing video games in his bedroom! David says he is not worried about the exam. Mark understands that he must find the answers by himself. After looking at his textbook again, he finally understands the difficult problem.
