History Study Groups

Elena

History is my hardest subject. When I joined the study group, I was very shy. I didn’t want to talk because I thought my answers were wrong! But the other students were very kind. We met every Tuesday after school, never on Saturday or Sunday. We had so much to read for the test! Luckily, my older sister is at university, and she came to our meetings to explain the difficult parts. We didn’t do any practice tests, but chatting together really helped me remember the facts.

Mateo

I usually talk a lot in class, so I wasn’t nervous about joining a group. Our history teacher gives us a lot of information, and it’s hard to catch everything. In our group, we all gave each other the papers we copied during the lessons. That was so useful! Because we are all busy on weekdays, we studied together on Saturday mornings in the library. I usually get bad grades in history. I thought I would only just pass, but I actually got an ‘A’! I couldn’t believe my result.

Zara

I love history, but this test was on a very difficult topic. Our study group was great. I prefer to keep my own notebook, but I helped my friends in a different way. Before we met, I wrote lots of questions on paper to see what my friends remembered. We also had to know where different old cities were. My favorite part was looking at drawings of the world from the past to see how things changed. I knew I would get a good score, but the group made studying much less boring!

Finished at Last!

Mark

I am so glad that the huge science test is finally over! When I looked at the clock, I was afraid I was too slow and wouldn’t reach the end before the bell rang. I actually answered the last question with just two minutes left. Some classmates asked me to go to the park to play football with them, but I am really tired. I don’t even want to have a big dinner tonight. Instead, I am going straight upstairs to close my eyes and sleep until tomorrow morning!

Sophie

That was the longest paper I have ever seen! The beginning was quite simple, and surprisingly, the pages at the end weren’t too bad either. Because I finished early, I read through all my choices a second time before handing the paper to my teacher. Now, I feel so light and happy. To say well done, my mum and dad are buying me a huge chocolate cake later! After that, I am getting together with some mates at the cinema to watch a funny movie. It’s the perfect evening.

Julian

I can finally breathe! Sitting in that hall for nearly three hours was a terrible experience. I answered the first section quickly, but the sentences on the final pages were really tough to understand. I had to guess a lot of them. In fact, I am quite certain I made an error on number forty. I wanted to look at everything again, but the teacher said our time was up. I thought I would be tired enough to go to sleep, but my brain is still too active. I’ll probably just watch some television.

Writing a Summer Holiday Essay

Jamie

I usually love writing, but this homework was really hard. I stayed at home all summer, so I only had a few things to talk about. Reaching the number of words the teacher wanted took a lot of effort! To get some ideas, I opened the gallery on my phone to see what I did in July. After that, I grabbed my pen and did the whole thing in under an hour! My sister wanted to read it, but I told her no.

Nina

My essay was about my family trip to the mountains. We slept in a tent under the trees for two weeks, so I had so many exciting stories to share. I wrote three long pages easily! I didn’t use a laptop because I enjoy using my favorite blue pen. When I finally stopped writing, I gave the paper to my mother. She is very good at spelling, so she fixed my mistakes before I gave it to my teacher. It took me three days to finish!

Oscar

I visited a busy city in Spain this summer and took hundreds of photographs. I had so much to say about the food and the museums! I am terrible at writing with a pen, so I used my laptop keyboard to do the homework. It is much easier. But then, the battery died and the screen went black. I didn’t save my document, so I had to do the middle paragraph all over again! Next time, I will ask my dad to help me fix my computer.
