Shopping for the Planet

Fifteen-year-old Lily used to love going to the mall every Saturday to buy cheap clothes. She enjoyed having lots of different outfits for school. However, last month she watched an interesting video online about how much waste the clothing industry makes. Lily felt sad about the planet and decided to change the way she shops.

She started exploring the internet to learn about eco-friendly fabrics. Lily was surprised to find out that companies can make warm jackets out of recycled plastic bottles. She also read about organic cotton, which uses less water to grow. Soon, she discovered a special online fashion brand called EcoWear that only uses these green materials.

Last week, Lily wanted to buy a new sweater from EcoWear. When she looked at the price, she noticed it cost much more than the clothes in her usual shops. She did not have enough money to buy several things, so she chose just one blue sweater. Her mother smiled and said that good clothes last longer.

Walking in Colour

My name is Toby and I am fifteen years old. I have always loved art, but I don’t like drawing on paper very much. Last year, I found a new hobby. I buy plain white shoes from the supermarket and paint beautiful, colourful designs on them.

Making a great pair of shoes takes a long time. First, I think of a design. Then, I use special paint. This is important because the colours must not wash away when it rains. I painted my first pair for my younger sister’s birthday, and she wore them to a family party.

Soon, my classmates saw my sister’s shoes. They really liked them and asked me to make some for them, too. Because of this, I opened a small shop on the internet. I get a lot of orders now. However, I only paint at the weekend because I have to finish my school homework during the week.
