How Our Parents Help Us

Toby

My parents are great at supporting me. I play the guitar, but they don’t play any instruments at all! They just listen to me. However, they really care about my education. Last month, they bought a really nice, big desk for my bedroom because my old one was broken. It is a fantastic place to read! When I am preparing for a big test late at night, my dad always brings me a plate of sandwiches. Unfortunately, they can’t always explain my homework. They look at my maths books and say they just don’t know the answers!

Mia

I love playing tennis. My parents never hold a racket themselves, but they love watching my matches. The local sports centre is quite far from our house, so my mum takes me there in her vehicle every Saturday morning. Without her, I couldn’t go! Also, my father is very good with his hands. Yesterday, he used some wood to create a beautiful shelf for my bedroom wall. Now I have a perfect place to put all the cups I win in competitions. My parents always ask about my homework, but I prefer playing sports!

Lucas

My favourite hobby is playing chess. I go to a club in town twice a week. I don’t need a lift because I just walk there with my friends. My dad loves the game too, so we usually sit at the board and have a match together after dinner. It is really fun! However, my parents worry about my education. My mother always tells me that I spend too many hours on my games. She thinks I should look at my schoolbooks more often. But my grades are actually quite good!

Funny Family Memories

Mark

Last summer, my family decided to go for a drive in the countryside. But after an hour, our old car suddenly stopped working! We couldn’t start the engine to go anywhere. While we waited for a mechanic to arrive and help us, we sat on the grass to eat our lunch. Suddenly, a large bird flew down from a tree and grabbed my cheese sandwich right out of my hand! We wanted to film the bird, but it was too fast. It was quite a surprise, and we still laugh about it today.

Sarah

A few years ago, we went on a trip to a beautiful city. We arrived by train and decided to walk to our guesthouse. However, we couldn’t find the right street, and we walked in circles for a very long time. Then, the weather suddenly changed. A lot of water started falling from the dark clouds, and we didn’t have our umbrellas! We were completely wet by the time we found our beds for the night. We felt cold, but we just looked at each other and smiled.

David

For my mother’s fiftieth birthday, my dad wanted to bake her a cake. It was raining outside, so we stayed in the kitchen to help. Dad mixed everything together, but he made a huge mistake. He put a cup of salt in the bowl instead of sugar! When my mom put a piece in her mouth, her face looked so strange. The flavour was really horrible! My younger brother quickly used his smartphone to catch her expression on screen. Our dog was sleeping on the floor and didn’t even wake up!

Sharing a Bedroom

Tom

I share a room with my younger brother, Ben. The biggest problem is that he never puts his things away. His toys and school bags are always all over the floor! When I try to read my textbooks and write essays for class, it is impossible because he plays his video games so loudly. I usually have to put my headphones on and play my favourite rock bands so I cannot hear his noise! We usually get into bed at the exact same time. We have a lot of big cupboards, so keeping my t-shirts and jeans organised is easy.

Bella

My sister is two years older than me. Because she is older, she stays awake much longer than I do. She often keeps the lamp on to read, which makes it hard for me to rest. However, I actually love sharing a space with her. When the lights finally go out, we spend hours discussing our day and telling jokes in the dark. It’s really fun! She is very neat, so our floor is always clean. I do my studies at the kitchen table, so her noise never bothers me. Our walls are pink, but our mum chose that.

Harry

Sharing with my brother David is okay most of the time. Last year, my parents asked me what paint we should use for the bedroom, and I selected a cool dark blue. It looks amazing! However, there is one big issue. Our wardrobe is extremely small, and David puts all his jackets and shoes inside. I have absolutely nowhere to keep my sweaters! David gets into bed very early, so I have to be quiet at night. I never use the room for studying because my computer desk is downstairs in the living room.
