Strict but Fair House Rules

Leo

My parents are quite strict during the week. When I walk through the front door after my classes, I can’t just relax. I have to open my books and do my school exercises right away. Also, I cannot stay up late. Mom turns off the lights at exactly nine o’clock every night. It sounds hard, but it is fair. If I do everything without complaining, my dad gives me some extra coins at the weekend. I usually use it to buy sweet things, which I can enjoy at any time on Saturdays!

Mia

In our house, there are rules about free time. I love playing video games on my computer, but I must wash the dishes and put my clothes away first. My dad always says work comes before play! Also, when I am hungry in the afternoon, I am not allowed to have chocolate or biscuits. I must wait until we sit down for our big evening meal. I can stay awake until ten o’clock, which is nice. I don’t get paid to help, but my parents take me to fun places on Sundays.

Sam

We have a few important rules in my family, especially in the dining room. When we sit together for breakfast or lunch, mobile phones and tablets must stay in our bedrooms. My mom wants us to talk to each other instead. Another rule is that I cannot leave anything in my bowl. I have to finish every carrot and potato my dad cooks for me. I usually do my reading for school after we finish eating, not before. Sometimes my parents ask me to clear the table, but I don’t mind.

A Special Trip with an Aunt or Uncle

Noah

Last month, my uncle took me to the coast for a weekend. We didn’t stay in a tent; we had a nice little wooden house near the beach. The sun shone every day, so we never needed our umbrellas! On Saturday, we went out on my uncle’s small ship for a few hours. We sailed far from the land. Later, we used some special equipment to get some fish from the sea. We cooked them on a fire in the evening, and they tasted amazing. It was much better than buying dinner from a supermarket.

Ella

I went to the mountains with my aunt in the summer. I wanted to visit a castle, but we stayed far away from towns. We walked up the tall hills for six hours one day! My feet hurt a lot after that, but the view was beautiful. We didn’t sleep in a hotel. Instead, we put up a tent and rested under the stars. My aunt also showed me how to read a paper map to find our way. I didn’t know how to do that before! We brought our own sausages and cooked them for dinner.

Finn

My uncle lives in a beautiful city, and he invited me there for a few days. We travelled everywhere by underground train because we didn’t want to use our legs too much. It was quite a grey and wet weekend. We had to wear our raincoats all the time, so we couldn’t go to the open parks. Because it was raining so much outside, we spent Saturday inside a large building looking at old pots, clothes, and paintings from the past. It was really interesting! We didn’t cook anything; we just bought pizza from a lovely cafe.

Different Cousins

Max

I am a very careful person, but my cousin Leo is the opposite! He never decides what to do before the weekend begins. Instead, he loves scary sports like jumping from high rocks into the sea. I just want to stay safe! Another difference is that I enjoy reading quietly in a tidy room. Leo’s bedroom is usually a mess, and he is certainly never quiet. He is always speaking loudly and telling long stories to people. It gives me a headache sometimes, but he usually sleeps until midday, so I get some peace in the morning!

Lily

My cousin Eva and I are completely different. I am quite lazy and leave my clothes all over my bedroom floor. Eva hates having dirty spaces, so she washes her floor and puts everything away perfectly. Eva is also very active. While I am still sleeping, she is already eating breakfast at six o’clock! She loves being outside with a big group of mates. She is totally fine in a crowd, whereas I sometimes get a bit shy if I meet lots of new boys and girls at the same time.

Tom

I am a very friendly guy, but my cousin Dan is not like me at all. He feels worried at big parties and prefers to sit by himself. In fact, he dislikes the outdoors completely! You will usually find him staying inside the house, just reading novels or watching films on his laptop. He also hates surprises. I usually decide what to do at the last minute, but Dan uses a diary to write down what will happen next week. He always knows exactly what he is doing every day!
