Sam’s Amazing Jungle Adventure
Fourteen-year-old Sam loves taking photos. Last month, he travelled to a huge jungle in South America with his parents. Before the trip, Sam was quite nervous. He expected to see lots of dangerous spiders and big snakes everywhere. However, he soon realised the jungle was full of beautiful and unusual animals instead.
On their first morning, the family woke up at five o’clock to go on a walking tour. The forest was very noisy. Suddenly, Sam’s guide pointed to a tall tree. Sam saw a lovely bird with bright blue and yellow feathers. The guide explained that this bird only eats sweet fruit from the highest branches, so it never comes down to the ground.
Later that evening, it was completely dark. Sam and his parents walked outside with their flashlights. They heard some monkeys playing, but they couldn’t see them. Then, Sam noticed a strange green frog sitting on a large plant. It looked exactly like a leaf! The guide said the frog does this to hide from hungry snakes.

A Night Around the Fire
My name is Sam, and I am sixteen years old. I am currently on a summer holiday in Greece with my family. Yesterday, some local teenagers from the village invited me to a late-night beach barbecue. I played tennis all afternoon, so I felt quite tired, but I really wanted to go.
I met the group at the beach at nine o’clock. It was already completely dark. In my country, we usually cook meat like chicken or sausages at barbecues. However, my new friends brought fresh fish from the local market. Before we started cooking, I helped them find dry wood to build a large fire.
The fish tasted absolutely amazing. After we finished eating, one of the boys took out a guitar and started playing. We sat around the fire and sang songs for hours. I don’t speak much Greek, and their English wasn’t perfect, but it didn’t matter. We laughed a lot and understood each other easily.
I finally returned to my hotel at one o’clock in the morning. I was extremely sleepy, but it was definitely the best night of my trip. When I fly back to the UK next week, I am going to plan a similar beach party with my classmates!
