The Local Motor Show

Toby

I went to the motor show with my best friend. The best car I saw was a brilliant silver sports model. It was huge, not like the little city vehicles you usually see on the roads. The man working there let me open the door and sit in the driver’s seat while my mate used his phone to capture the moment. It was amazing! I don’t have enough cash now, but my dream is to save up from my future career and buy one for myself later in life.

Mia

Before I bought my ticket for the exhibition, I checked a few websites to find out which vehicles would be there. I really wanted to see the new ‘Flash’ sports model. When I finally found it, I couldn’t believe my eyes. Most fast cars are red or black, but this one was bright purple! It looked so unusual. I thought it would be long and wide, but it was actually tiny. There was only enough room for two people! I didn’t take any pictures because I left my phone at home.

Leo

My father knows a lot about fast cars, so I asked him to come to the exhibition with me. We spent hours walking around the enormous hall. I saw a beautiful blue sports car that I really liked, but the price was a million pounds! I’ll never be able to afford something like that. While we were looking at it, the owner started the engine. It was definitely not quiet! My ears actually hurt because the sound was so big. It was a great day, but we were glad to go home.

Driving on the Highway

I love my fast sports car. When I go fast on the big roads, the engine drinks a lot of fuel, but it is so much fun! It was very expensive to buy, but I do not mind. I often go on long trips on the highway at weekends. My friend always travels with me and gives me half of the money for the petrol, which helps a lot. I always keep the car light and never carry heavy bags because there is no space in the back. Next month, I plan to drive to the mountains in my country.

Lam

I bought my silver sedan last year. The main reason I chose this vehicle was to save money on my daily trips, as some fast cars can be very expensive to run. Last week, I took a long trip down the motorway for five hours. I didn’t expect the car to use so little petrol. It was a wonderful surprise! I usually travel alone and only bring a small bag with me. I am planning an exciting holiday for next month. I am going to drive to another country to see some friends.

My high-performance car is wonderful for long highway drives. It has a modern engine that uses both electricity and petrol, so it does not need much fuel to go fast. Fixing Expensive Modern Cars

Tom

Fixing new, expensive cars is very different from the past. When a car comes into the garage, I don’t just look under the bonnet anymore. First, I plug the car into a laptop. The screen shows me exactly where the trouble is. Before, jobs were quite fast. Now, because the engines have so many wires, it takes many more hours to finish. You also need a perfect workspace. We wash our floors every day because even a little bit of dust can break the engine! I don’t go to lessons to learn this; I just learn by doing it.

Alex

I work on luxury cars every day. Sometimes, a job looks quick, but then you realise a piece is broken. The prices for these new metal bits are incredibly high. Customers are often surprised by how much they have to pay! Some of my friends hate working on these modern engines because they are so complicated. However, I always feel happy when I am repairing them. Finding the problem is like a great puzzle, and I think it is really fun! I don’t use books to help me; I just ask older mechanics instead.

Ben

Modern engines in rich people’s cars are full of electricity and computers. Last year, my boss sent me to a special school for three weeks. A teacher showed me all about the new engines. Even with that training, I can’t just guess what to do. Every time I open the car, I have to sit down and read hundreds of pages of instructions. If you don’t look at the text carefully, you can make a big mistake. I don’t use a laptop to check the engine like other people; I prefer to use my own tools.
