Our Sunday Morning Ride

My name is Clara, and I am thirteen years old. Every Sunday morning, my family has a special tradition. We wake up early, put on our helmets, and go for a long bike ride together. I live with my parents and my younger brother, Leo. We all love this activity.

Our journey always starts at seven o’clock. The streets are very quiet at that time, and there are no cars. We ride through the center of our town and then go into the large forest. The path in the forest is sometimes quite difficult because it goes up and down, but my dad always helps us if we are tired.

After riding for an hour, we arrive at a beautiful lake. This is my favorite part of the trip. We stop there, sit on the grass, and eat a small picnic. My mom usually brings sandwiches, apples, and some cold juice. While we eat, we watch the ducks swimming on the water.

We get back home at about ten o’clock. My legs often hurt, and I feel really tired. However, I always look forward to our Sunday rides. It is a fantastic way to begin the day, and we have a lot of fun talking and laughing as a family.

A Night Without Screens

My name is Tom, and I am fourteen years old. In my house, we usually have a problem in the evenings. After dinner, my parents always watch television in the living room. My older sister, Lily, goes to her bedroom to look at her phone, and I normally play video games on my laptop. Nobody speaks, and our home is very quiet.

Last week, I decided to change our routine. I looked in my cupboard and found some old board games. I asked my family to have a special game night on Friday. I also made a strict rule for the evening: everyone had to leave their phones and computers in another room!

When Friday arrived, Lily was quite angry. She wanted to watch a new movie on her tablet. However, she sat down at the kitchen table with us. We started playing a fast drawing game. Suddenly, Lily started laughing at my dad’s terrible pictures. We had so much fun, and my mum actually won the first match.

We played different games for three hours. Nobody asked for their phones or wanted to turn on the TV. It was a brilliant evening. Now, my family agrees to do this every week. I am extremely pleased because we are finally spending real time together!

A Surprising Saturday

I love the weekend. I usually stay in bed until ten o’clock on Saturdays. But last weekend, my mum woke me up at six o’clock in the morning! I was very tired and quite angry. She said we had to get ready for a long car journey to see family.

We were travelling to a small village in the mountains to visit my mother’s cousins. I last saw them when I was five years old, so I didn’t really remember them at all. I packed three books and my mobile phone in my bag. I was sure the day would be really boring.

When we finally arrived at the old farmhouse, a teenage boy opened the door. It was my cousin, Leo, and he is exactly my age. After a delicious lunch, Leo showed me his father’s quad bike and we rode it around their huge farm. We also played football with some local kids. I completely forgot about my phone!

In the evening, I felt sad when my dad said it was time to go home. The long journey back was quiet because I was sleeping in the back of the car. Next time my parents ask me to wake up early to visit family, I will definitely not complain!
