Fourteen-year-old Mia usually loves Mondays because she has science. Her teacher, Mr. Brown, is her favourite person at school. He always shows the class exciting experiments and makes difficult lessons easy to understand. However, this Monday, Mr. Brown had some bad news. He told the students he is leaving the school next month. Mia felt completely miserable.

Understanding the Lesson

Fourteen-year-old Lucas usually enjoys his English classes. He loves learning new vocabulary and reading interesting stories. However, yesterday’s lesson was different. The teacher talked about a new grammar rule, and Lucas didn’t understand it at all. When the bell rang for the morning break, he felt quite worried about his homework.

His classmates quickly left the room. They wanted to play football in the school yard. But Lucas didn’t go with them. He walked slowly to the front of the classroom because he wanted to speak to his teacher, Mrs. Evans. He needed her to explain the difficult grammar rule one more time.

Mrs. Evans smiled when Lucas asked for help. ‘Of course, Lucas,’ she said. She didn’t open the coursebook again. Instead, she took a red pen and drew a simple picture on the whiteboard. Then, she gave him some easy examples about eating pizza and travelling to different countries.
