Why Spiders Are Our Friends

My name is Tom, and I am a fifteen-year-old high school student. When I was a young boy, I was terrified of spiders. If I saw a small spider in the living room, I always ran away quickly. I usually shouted for my mum, and she had to take the insect outside.

But last month, everything changed because of a science project at school. My teacher, Mr. Clark, brought some house spiders to our lesson. He told us that these animals are actually our friends. They are very useful because they eat terrible insects like flies and mosquitoes. After that lesson, I started to read more about them online.

Now, I really don’t mind having spiders in my house. In fact, just last week, I found a very large brown spider on my bedroom wall. Before, I would feel sick, but this time I was calm. I simply took a photo of it with my phone. Then, I put it inside a glass and carried it to the garden.

I decided to write this article for our school magazine to help other teenagers. I know many people are afraid, but the spiders in our homes are completely harmless. We should stop killing them and remember that they do a great job in the natural world.
