Maya’s Wetland Adventure

Fifteen-year-old Maya has a very unusual weekend hobby. While her classmates spend their Saturdays sleeping late or going to the shopping mall, Maya wakes up at five o’clock in the morning. She is a member of a local nature club, and her biggest passion is observing rare birds in the wetlands near her town.

To prepare for her trips, Maya always packs carefully. She wears tall waterproof boots because the ground in the wetlands is very wet and muddy. She also brings a notebook and a heavy pair of binoculars so she can see far away. The club members have to walk very slowly and stay completely silent so they don’t frighten the animals.

Last Sunday, the club went on a very special trip. They wanted to find a rare bird called the Painted Heron, which hadn’t been seen in the area for two years. Maya stood quietly in the cold mud for three hours, and she was starting to feel quite tired. Suddenly, the club leader pointed to some tall grass. There, standing in the water, was the beautiful bird with its bright blue and orange feathers.

My Special Garden Project

My name is Charlie and I am thirteen years old. I always enjoy making things with my hands. Last month, I decided to do a new project. I wanted to build a wooden birdhouse for the garden. I found some pieces of wood in the garage, took my tools, and worked outside all weekend.

When the birdhouse was ready, I climbed a tall tree and put it on a strong branch. Then, I went to the supermarket and bought a nice little notebook. I wanted to write a diary about all the birds that visit. For the first few days, nothing happened. I looked out of my bedroom window, but the birdhouse was completely empty.

Then, after two long weeks, something exciting happened. Early one morning, a beautiful blue bird flew into the birdhouse. A few days later, a whole family of brown birds arrived! I watched them carefully and wrote everything in my new diary. I wrote about the time they came, what they ate, and their different colours.

Now, my little notebook is full of stories about my flying visitors. I love reading it before I go to sleep. Building the birdhouse was a fantastic idea. Next spring, I am going to make a bigger house, and I also want to get a camera to take pictures of the birds.
