A Special Morning on the Beach

Lily, a twelve-year-old girl, was on a summer holiday with her family in Greece. She usually hates waking up early for school. However, on Tuesday morning, she got out of bed at 4:00 a.m. with a big smile on her face. She and her father were going to the beach to see something very special: sea turtles.

It was still dark when they met their local guide, Elena, outside the hotel. They walked to the sea together. Elena told them that they had to be extremely quiet. “You must not use your phones or turn on any lights,” she whispered. “Loud noises and bright lights will frighten the animals away.” Lily listened carefully and put her phone in her bag.

They sat on the cold sand and waited. After almost an hour, Lily finally saw a large, dark shape coming out of the water. It was a beautiful sea turtle. The turtle slowly moved up the beach, dug a deep hole in the sand, and laid her eggs. Lily felt completely amazed, but she didn’t say a word.

When the turtle finished, she went back into the sea. The sun started to rise, painting the sky pink and orange. Lily and her father walked back to their hotel for breakfast. Lily was very tired, but she was also incredibly happy. It was the most wonderful morning of her life.
