A Year of New Weather

Mateo is fifteen years old and comes from a country where it is always summer. Last September, he travelled to Canada to study at a high school for six months. When he arrived, it was autumn. Mateo was amazed. He watched the leaves on the trees turn red and yellow before they fell to the ground. He felt quite cool for the first time in his life, so he had to buy a warm jacket.

In December, the weather changed again. One morning, Mateo woke up and saw white snow everywhere. He was very excited because he never saw snow before. That weekend, his new friends took him to an outdoor pool. He tried ice skating, but he fell down many times. However, he really enjoyed making a big snowman in the park.

But winter was also difficult for Mateo. In his hometown, the sun always shines until late in the evening. In Canada, the sky became dark at four o’clock in the afternoon. He often felt a little sad because he missed the bright sun. He also didn’t like wearing heavy boots and a thick hat every time he walked to school.
