Leo’s Useful English Skills

Last week, thirteen-year-old Leo travelled to Rome with his parents for a holiday. When they finally arrived at their hotel, everyone was very tired. A friendly woman at the reception desk smiled and started speaking to them in English. Leo’s parents only speak a little English, so they didn’t understand what she was saying. They looked worried.

A Room with a Beautiful View

It has been a very long school year, so I was really excited when my parents told me about our summer holiday. Last week, we took a train to a small town on the coast. The journey took six hours, and I was very tired when we finally arrived at the Ocean Star Hotel. I just wanted to sleep.

But when my dad opened the door to our room, I forgot how tired I was. The room was huge, with two large beds and a modern bathroom. However, the best part was the balcony. I walked over and opened the glass doors. Outside, there was an amazing view of the sea. The water was beautiful dark blue, and the beach was totally empty.

Usually, when I stay in hotels, I turn on the television immediately. This time, I didn’t even look at the TV. I spent hours sitting outside, listening to the waves. I took lots of photos of the sea and sent them to my classmates. The next morning, I woke up at 6 a.m. just to watch the sun come up over the water.

We are going home tomorrow, and I feel quite sad. This room is definitely the best place I have ever stayed in. I feel so relaxed now, and I am ready to go back to school next week. I hope we can return to this fantastic hotel again next year!
