A Trip to Discover Our Food
Leo is fifteen and loves cooking. Last month, he was eating lunch with his friends at school. He asked them where their carrots came from, but nobody knew. Many students thought vegetables only came from the supermarket! Because of this, Leo decided to plan a class trip to an organic farm.
First, Leo had to ask his science teacher, Mr. Harris. The teacher thought it was a brilliant idea. Then, Leo called Green Valley Farm, which is just outside their town. The farmer, Mrs. Clark, was very friendly. She told Leo that the students could visit on a Tuesday morning and she wouldn’t ask for any money.
On the day of the trip, twenty teenagers arrived at the farm. Mrs. Clark showed them around. She explained that she never uses chemicals on her plants. The students pulled potatoes out of the dark earth and collected warm eggs from the chickens. Most of them were incredibly surprised that dirty jobs could be so much fun.
