Using Reusable Bags

Chloe

I hate plastic bags. Last month, I was walking home from the supermarket, and all my apples and milk fell on the street because the thin plastic tore. It was terrible! Since then, I only take cloth ones. They are not very pretty, but they hold a lot. My biggest problem was always forgetting to take them with me. Now, I leave my strong ones right next to the front door. That way, I never walk out without them when I need to buy things.

Milan

My science teacher gave us a lesson about the environment recently, and it really changed my mind. He showed us how plastic can end up in the water, and poor fish and turtles can eat it by mistake. Now, I always carry my own shopping bag. Another great thing is that the supermarket gives you a few pence back when you don’t ask for their plastic ones. It makes buying snacks a little cheaper! My sister’s cloth bag got a hole in it once, but mine is very well-made.

Zara

I have a fantastic reusable bag that my aunt gave me. It has a lovely picture of a big green forest on it, and I really love the bright colours. I don’t just take it to the grocery shop for fruit and vegetables. I actually pack it with my library books and my sports clothes for basketball practice, too! Cloth bags cost a few pounds to buy at first, but you can use them for years. I think everyone should stop using plastic completely to keep our town clean.

A Documentary on Global Warming

Elena

Last night, I watched a great film about our changing planet. We turned on our large living room TV to see it. The time went so quickly because it was wonderful! I discovered some surprising new facts about changing rain patterns and temperature levels that surprised me. However, I felt miserable and cried when the film showed polar bears losing their icy places to live. Luckily, the video website didn’t charge any money to view it, so it was excellent. I told my dad about it later, and he wants to watch it too.

Dan

I love nature programs, so I sat on the sofa with my older brother to watch this new one about hot temperatures. The white animals looked beautiful in the snow and made me smile, but the ice is disappearing fast. My brother bought the online video ticket for us last week. I already knew a lot about the changing weather from my science books, so the information wasn’t new. But it was still very interesting. On Monday morning, I chatted about the global warming video with my classmates and my geography teacher.

Yuki

I found this documentary online while doing a project. I opened my computer screen in bed to stream the film late at night. It had amazing photography, and it was interesting to see where wild creatures live in the cold north. However, it lasted for nearly three hours, and I think it was much too long. I got very tired before the end. I didn’t talk to anyone at school about it because I forgot, but I think people should see it to understand our warm world.

Protecting Sea Turtles

Lucas

I live near a popular coast. I usually walk by the water late in the evening when the sky is completely black. That is when the baby turtles break out of their eggs and try to find the ocean. However, the shining signs from hotels and cars can make them walk the wrong way! My job is to guide them safely to the waves. Sometimes I see empty plastic cups, but my main task isn’t clearing those. I also asked my teachers to start a project, but our class doesn’t have one yet.

Chloe

I am a member of a science group organized by my biology teacher. We do many things to look after the local sea life. The best part is digging holes to put small trees into the soil near the coast. This gives the mother turtles a safe, natural place to leave their eggs. I also go to primary classes and share interesting facts with the little boys and girls there. I usually do this on Sunday mornings. My family sometimes meets visitors on the beach, but I don’t usually talk to them.

Mateo

I want to study sea biology in the future, so I go to the beach every weekend to protect the animals. My main activity is picking up dirty bottles and food wrappers from the shore so the turtles don’t eat them by mistake. Sometimes, crowds of people come to take photos. I have to politely tell the visitors not to get too close because it scares the mothers. There are many tall trees around, but I prefer helping the animals directly. I also love the warm sunshine, so I never work in the dark.
