Nature’s Art

Leo

I love walking in the forest to look for fallen branches and small pieces of wood. When I get home, I sit at my bedroom desk to make my art because it is usually too cold in the garden. I use a brush to make the wood bright blue or red. Last week, I didn’t have any glue to put the pieces together, so I walked to the supermarket to get some. Some kids make these things for their parents, but I prefer to keep my finished wooden pictures on my own walls!

Maya

My favourite place to look for things is the beach. I walk along the sand and pick up beautiful white shells and nice round stones. I do this in the warm summer months and also in the cold winter! I don’t like sitting inside my house, so I usually build my stone pictures right there on the grass near the water. I don’t use any paint because the natural colours are already perfect. Nobody in my house showed me how to do this; I learned everything from a video on the internet!

Toby

I use dry autumn leaves and interesting flowers to make beautiful birthday cards. My grandmother was amazing at doing this, and she showed me exactly what to do when I was younger. We never go to the coast to look for things; we just find everything we need in the local park. The best part is that I don’t have to buy anything at all from a store! When I finish a card, I always write a nice message inside and hand it to a classmate for their special day.

Protecting Our Local Forest

Leo

I wanted to protect the beautiful woods near my house, so I decided to join the forest walk on Saturday. I went with my parents, not my classmates. I spent all Friday evening painting a large sign to hold in my hands. The message on it said, ‘Save our green spaces!’ When we arrived, I didn’t expect such a big crowd. There were hundreds of individuals walking together, and it was amazing to see! The sun was shining all day, which was great because I forgot my coat. I really hope they don’t cut the trees down.

Maya

I saw a post on a social media website about the march to save the local forest, so I asked my older sister to take me. I didn’t have time to make a poster to hold, but we shouted loudly to stop the machines from destroying the nature. It rained a lot and the wind was strong, so we got very wet and cold. There were only about fifty of us, but we made a lot of noise. A woman from the local TV station was there, but she only talked to the adults, not me.

Toby

A group of friends from my class and I decided to join the protest. Our science teacher told us about it, so we didn’t read about it online. We want to stop the builders from cutting down the old trees. While we were walking, a man who writes for the daily news asked me why I was there, and he wrote down my answers. It was an exciting day, but this march wasn’t enough to stop the builders. We are planning another meeting next week to make sure our woods stay safe forever.

Planting Trees for Better Air

Sam

I really wanted to help make our town greener. Some students from my school were planting trees, but I went with my dad instead. I had never done this before, so a local farmer explained exactly how deep to dig the holes. It was hard work! By the time we finished, my shoulders and legs were aching completely. We gave the little trees a lot of water on that first day, but luckily, it rains a lot here, so I don’t have to go back and do it again.

Chloe

My science class decided to improve our area, so my teacher and the other teenagers in my group bought twenty small trees. We spent our own pocket money on them! We wanted to put them near the football field, but there wasn’t enough space. Instead, we put them along the busy road near our houses. Even though they are still short, I really believe the wind feels cleaner and less dirty when I walk past them. I was tired afterwards, but nothing hurt at all.

Finn

Our town council wanted to clean up the environment, so they gave away boxes of young plants to anyone who wanted to help. It was great because it kept our money in our pockets! I took ten of them to the park and dug holes right beside the area where people play tennis and basketball. I’ve grown flowers before, so I didn’t need anyone to teach me what to do. To make sure they grow tall and healthy, I am going to bring a large bucket of water for them every Saturday.
