A Beautiful Winter Lake
Emma
I live quite close to a large lake. My favorite time to walk there is just before the evening begins. The sky turns pink and purple, and those bright shades look amazing on the white snow. I really love this place in January because you don’t see anyone else around. In the summer, there are tourists everywhere, but in winter, it is perfectly quiet. Sometimes I hear a bird in the sky, but everything on the ground is completely still. It is the best place to relax.
Felix
The frozen lake near my house is amazing. When it gets really cold, the thick water turns into deep blue and dark black shapes. It never stays the same! I love bringing my camera to catch the sunlight on it. If you listen carefully, the hard lake actually sings. It makes strange clicking and cracking noises, almost like breaking glass. The best thing is sitting quietly and looking at the fresh footprints. You can easily see where foxes and rabbits have traveled right across the hard water.
Sofia
I always wake up early to visit the lake in winter. I prefer the morning light to the afternoon. When the temperature drops, the top of the lake becomes completely clear. You can look straight through it, just like looking through a clean piece of glass. It is so beautiful. I always wear warm boots because the snow makes a loud crunching noise when I walk. I spend hours
looking at the tall pines next to the water and trying to get perfect pictures of them.

Watching the Sunrise
Liam
My uncle and I woke up at 4:00 a.m. to visit the big valley near our town. I am glad we didn’t go on foot because he drove us there in his truck. While we waited for the day to begin, the weather was actually very warm, so I didn’t need my jacket. When the sun finally came up, we shared some hot tea from a flask. It was delicious. The sky had the usual beautiful reds and yellows. We didn’t hear any wildlife, just the sound of the wind, but sharing that moment with him was wonderful.
Noah
I camped by myself near the valley, so I was completely alone when I woke up. I forgot my water bottle, so I couldn’t drink anything, but I didn’t mind. Just before the sun came up, some wild birds started singing loudly in the forest behind me. Then, the morning sky turned a weird mix of dark purple and green. I have never seen anything like it! Because the view was so amazing, I used my smartphone to record a video for my classmates. I couldn’t wait for them to look at it when I got home.
Emma
Reaching the best spot to see the sunrise was hard work. My friends and I didn’t drive; it took us nearly two hours on foot to reach the edge of the valley! While we were waiting in the dark, the wind was freezing. I had to put on a very thick sweater to stay comfortable. Once the light appeared, the view over the wide, empty space was amazing. It was completely silent, without a single noise from any creatures. I didn’t have my camera, but I will always keep the memory of that beautiful morning in my head.

Walking Above the Sea
Oliver
Walking high above the ocean was amazing. I looked over the edge and noticed some big white birds flying down to the water to catch their dinner. It was wonderful to watch them. However, the track was very narrow and full of loose stones. I had to walk slowly so I didn’t fall. It was quite scary! I thought there might be a strong breeze up there, but the air was actually very still. I only wished I had some food with me because I got really hungry!
Emma
I went up to the high rocks with my family and my dog, Buster. He loves running around in open spaces! The path was wide and flat, so we never worried about falling or having an accident. Halfway along, we sat on the grass and enjoyed some sandwiches and apples. It was a beautiful spot, but the air moving off the sea was incredibly strong. It blew so hard I had to hold onto my sunglasses! I definitely didn’t want them to fall into the water below.
Liam
Standing on top of the high rocks gave me a fantastic view of the sea. I could see for kilometers! Far away, I noticed a couple of sailing boats moving quietly across the waves. I tried to see some fish or dolphins swimming near them, but the water was too dark. Suddenly, my favorite hat blew right off my head and disappeared over the edge. I couldn’t get it back! I was sad about that, but at least the walk wasn’t too difficult. Next time, I won’t wear it.
