Driving in Thick Morning Fog

Mateo

I live far from my school, so my dad drives me every morning. Today, the fog was very thick. It is incredibly dangerous because it is almost impossible to know if another car or bus is right in front of you. You can only see white clouds around the windows! Drivers often use their lights, but that doesn’t always help. Because we had to travel very slowly, we didn’t arrive for the start of my first lesson. Lucas told me he prefers walking, but that’s too far for me. I hate bad weather!

Lucas

Thick fog in the morning makes the roads very scary. Many people don’t slow down enough when it is gray outside, which causes big problems. I never take the bus or ask my parents to drive me. In my opinion, walking is much safer than traveling by road in the early hours because you don’t have to worry about the traffic. If adults have to drive, turning on the radio is a great idea to hear the latest news about the roads. My friend Sofia saw a bad accident once, and I never want that to happen to me.

Sofia

When I walk to school in the morning, the fog can be terrible. Everything looks like a white wall! It is especially dangerous for drivers. Last week, I watched two taxis hit each other near the park because they couldn’t see the traffic lights. Fortunately, nobody was hurt. You might hear the cars, but you can’t see them coming. The good thing is that the problem doesn’t last long. When the sun comes up and the morning gets warmer, the air becomes clear again and driving is safe once more.

A Windy Day

Oliver

I was walking to the train station yesterday morning. I didn’t know it was going to be so windy! Suddenly, a huge gust of wind pulled my umbrella inside out. It made a loud noise, and my face went completely red because all the people on the street were watching me. I couldn’t fix it, so I put it in the bin. Then, the wind blew my warm winter hat off my head and over a tall wall. I was so cold that I walked straight into a nearby clothing store to get another one. Next time, I’ll just wear a coat with a hood!

Maria

The weather was terrible on Tuesday. I was standing at the bus stop after finishing my supermarket trip. I had two large bags of groceries in my hands, so I couldn’t hold onto my umbrella very well. The wind suddenly pulled it out of my hand! A woman tried to catch it for me, but it flew into the road. At the same time, my favourite sun hat blew away. I tried to run after it, but I fell over and cut my knee. It was very painful. After that, I decided to just take a taxi home.

David

I usually love walking in the rain, but yesterday was too stormy. My backpack was quite light, so it was easy to hold my umbrella with both hands. However, the wind was just too strong. It blew my baseball cap off and took my umbrella! My hat went into the river, so it was gone forever. But my umbrella flew down the street. Luckily, a teenage boy ran fast, grabbed it from the ground, and returned it to me. I was very thankful. From now on, I will always watch the news to see if a storm is coming before I leave the house!

Tracking the Storm

Toby

When the big storm was coming, my friend told me to download a new weather app. The basic app was free, but I spent two pounds to get the special wind tracking tools. I stayed inside my warm bedroom the whole afternoon watching the screen. I loved looking at the weather charts because the colorful graphics were really clear and didn’t confuse me at all. It showed that the bad weather was moving away from our town very slowly, so we were safe.

Hannah

I downloaded a free weather app last week, so I didn’t have to give any money for it. My uncle is a pilot, and he showed me how to use all the different parts of it. It was very useful during the storm. When I saw the heavy rain coming towards our street on the map, I ran to tell the old lady next door to close her windows. My internet was working perfectly, so I could see exactly when the lightning would start.

Lucas

Our geography teacher suggested we use an app to track the severe storm. The maps looked quite complicated at first. I kept looking at my phone while I was walking home from school. I didn’t expect the bad weather to reach us so quickly! The dark clouds appeared in minutes. Suddenly, the phone network went down because of the strong wind, and the screen stopped updating, so I had to hurry home without knowing where the storm was.
