Playing Outside After a Heavy Snowfall

Oliver

When I woke up and saw the white garden, I was so excited. I didn’t try to make a snowman, because mine are never very tall. Instead, I took a hard piece of plastic and climbed the mountain behind our house. Going down to the bottom at top speed was the best feeling! I threw a few white balls for my dog to catch, but I didn’t have anyone to play games with. When my fingers finally got cold, my mum gave me a cup of hot chocolate in the kitchen.

Emma

Before I played, I took a shovel and cleared the path for the old lady next door. She was very happy! After that, I walked slowly up the street to meet my classmates. We had a huge battle, hiding behind trees and trying to hit each other with balls of ice! I wore my new winter coat, so I stayed completely dry. We were having an amazing time, but sadly, my dad called me. He said dinner was ready, so I had to leave my friends. I really wished I could stay outside longer!

Lucas

My little sister and I spent three hours working in the garden today. We didn’t throw anything at our friends. Instead, we worked together to construct a giant ice castle. It was much higher than my head! I worked so hard that I actually drank a big glass of cold juice, not anything warm. By the end of the afternoon, the snow started melting. I had water all over my trousers and socks. Because my feet were freezing, I decided to go inside. I was perfectly happy to end our adventure then.

Ruined Plans in the Thunderstorm

Lucas

I was driving to the cinema with my dad when the sky suddenly went completely black. We were safe from the rain, but the crashing thunder really made me jump! I have never liked loud bangs at all. Through the window, we saw people running into a supermarket to get dry, but we just stayed in our seats. My dad almost dropped his mobile phone in the car because it suddenly got so dark! Sadly, our plan to watch a movie was ruined because the electricity went off in the whole town.

Sofia

My friends and I planned to have a lovely lunch in the park. The sun was shining in the morning, so I had my sunglasses, but I remembered to pack my umbrella just in case! Suddenly, heavy rain began to fall. We grabbed our sandwiches and ran. We saw a clothes shop across the street and went straight through the doors. It wasn’t a scary experience at all, just very annoying! Later, we went back to my house and enjoyed our sandwiches in the living room instead of on the grass.

Ben

I was walking to a restaurant to meet my brother when the storm hit. I looked up and water poured down on me. I didn’t bring a jacket because it looked so sunny and warm earlier in the day! The wind was so strong that it blew my favourite baseball cap right off my head, and I couldn’t find it anywhere. I wasn’t afraid of the thunder, but I stepped in a huge pool of water. When I finally got home, it took me forty minutes to remove all the brown mud from my trainers!

Dressing for Winter

Leo

When it is very cold and windy, I don’t wear one big heavy coat. Instead, I put on three or four light T-shirts and sweaters. It keeps the wind out much better! When I arrive at school and walk into my classroom, I put my top sweater in my bag because the heating makes it very warm in there. My mum always tells me to put something warm on my head, but I hate doing that because it makes my hair look bad! I prefer to just stay inside and play video games rather than go skiing.

Mark

The wind can be terrible in my town during winter. To stay warm, I always wrap a long woolen scarf around my neck and pull it up over my nose. That way, the freezing air doesn’t hurt my skin. I also wear a thick sweater that my grandmother finished making for me last Christmas. It is much better than wearing lots of light t-shirts. I also have some strong boots, but I still slide on the street sometimes when I walk to the bus stop in the morning.

Toby

I spend a lot of time outdoors in winter because I love snowboarding. My jacket is actually used for doing that, so it is perfect for freezing, windy days. It stops the wind completely! The streets get very icy here, so I always wear special winter boots. They have thick rubber on the bottom, which means I can walk safely and not go down on the ice. My brother bought them for me. Unlike my friends, I keep my jacket on even when I go into the shops because I am always cold!
