Taking Days Off School

Noah

I had to stay home from Monday to Wednesday because I had a bad temperature. I rested a lot, but I still felt quite weak when I woke up. To pass the time, I turned on my console and enjoyed some racing matches on the television. I also didn’t want to fall behind my classmates, so I opened my math books and completed the exercises on my desk. My mum made me some lovely hot soup, which tasted amazing!

Mia

My older brother had a terrible cough last week, and a few days later, my throat started hurting too. I was really sad because my class travelled to the science museum on Tuesday, and I had to stay at home! I brought my school books to bed, but my head hurt too much to look at them. My parents didn’t call the hospital. Instead, they just told me to close my eyes. After staying in bed for twelve hours, I finally had energy again!

Lucas

After our family camping trip last weekend, my stomach started to hurt terribly. My dad drove me to the local clinic, and the woman there told me to drink lots of water and stay in my room. While I was lying on the sofa, I felt too tired to look at any screens or play on my computer. I just listened to soft music. My dad only brought me dry bread and bananas to eat for two days. It was so boring, but it helped my stomach!

Feeling the Summer Heat

Liam

Yesterday, I walked home from school. The sun was very strong. I usually carry a plastic bottle with me, but I left it on my desk. Because of this, my mouth was completely dry. Suddenly, the street started spinning around and I felt terrible. I didn’t have a cap to keep the bright light off my face, so I just dropped down onto the grass next to the pavement to rest. I stayed there for ten minutes until I had enough energy to stand up again.

Emma

I was in the middle of a tennis match with my best friend. We were running a lot, and the afternoon was boiling hot. Even though I drank lots of cold juice, I suddenly felt completely weak. My legs felt like jelly! I couldn’t continue the game, so we stopped. I decided to enter a small supermarket across the street because it had cool air conditioning. I found a chair inside and called my mum to pick me up. I felt much safer there.

Noah

I was waiting for the bus in the afternoon. There were no clouds in the sky, but luckily I had my baseball cap on to cover my hair and eyes. Still, the temperature was over 35 degrees! Soon, I got a really bad ache in my head and everything went dark for a second. I stepped back and sat under a large tree. Then, a kind lady walking her dog saw me. She stopped to check on me and gave me a sweet orange to eat, which helped immediately!

Visiting the Doctor

Tom

I hate going to the doctor’s clinic when I need an injection. Yesterday, my dad couldn’t come, but my mum was next to me and held my hand tightly the whole time. I was worried it would take a long time, but when the doctor came near, I looked at the opposite wall and shut my eyes. That really helped me feel okay. I wanted to listen to songs on my mobile phone to stay calm, but I forgot my headphones at home. In the end, it didn’t hurt much, and the room was very clean.

Anna

I had to get an injection last Tuesday. I went into the clinic completely alone because my parents were at work. I was terrified before it started because I expected the needle to hurt terribly. To help myself feel relaxed, I put on my earphones and played my favourite tracks while waiting. I watched the doctor prepare everything, which made me nervous. But then, it was over in just a second, which was a big surprise! It was not bad at all, and I didn’t even cry.

Hugo

Last week, I visited the medical centre for an injection. My grandmother came with me, but she waited outside in the car. Inside, the worst part was the strange smell of the room, which I really hated. I was so frightened that I started crying as soon as I sat down on the chair. I stared at the needle the whole time, and it was quite painful. It felt like it took hours to finish, and I couldn’t listen to any music to forget about it. I am still afraid of doctors!
