Getting an Eye Test

Oliver

I sat at the back of the classroom on Tuesday morning, but I couldn’t see what the teacher wrote. My dad came with me to a clinic in town later that day. I wasn’t afraid at all because the doctor was very friendly. He told me I needed glasses. I chose a simple black pair. They were quite expensive, but they are fantastic. Now, when I sit in class, everything on the whiteboard is easy to see and I can do my work perfectly. I wear them every single day.

Sophia

I had my eye test on Saturday afternoon because I had trouble reading the board at school. I went to the shop with my older sister. The medical check was quick, and I got my glasses the same day. However, I hate the bright red frames I got—I really wished they were blue! On Monday morning, I was in such a hurry that I left them on my desk at home, so I still couldn’t see anything in class! They cost a lot of pocket money, so I must look after them better.

Ethan

I noticed a problem last week when I couldn’t see the teacher’s lessons clearly from my desk. I had an eye check after school on Wednesday. I was quite scared walking into the building because I don’t like doctors, but it was fine. I picked a beautiful brown pair of glasses. Because of a special school plan, they were completely free and didn’t cost any cash! I felt very happy. I bring them to school every day now and always keep them in my bag so I don’t lose them.

Twisted Ankles in the Park

Max

I went for a run on a beautiful, bright afternoon. I was jogging fast when a huge pet dog suddenly ran across the path. I tried to jump over it, but I went down hard and twisted my ankle! It hurt a lot. My dad took me to the hospital, and luckily, a nurse checked it immediately, so we didn’t have to sit in the waiting room for hours. I am very sad because I can’t play basketball with my group tomorrow. I just have to rest on the sofa!

Lily

I usually run on the grass near the lake. Yesterday, I wasn’t looking carefully and hit my foot against a large stone. I twisted my ankle and couldn’t walk at all. There were no animals around to trip over, just my own mistake! I didn’t know what to do, but then a kind woman that I had never met before saw me. She stopped her car and drove me back to my front door. I didn’t get any pills from the pharmacy. Instead, I just rested with some frozen peas on my leg to stop the hurting.

Omar

I prefer running late in the evening. Last night, the sun was completely gone and there were no lamps in the park, so I couldn’t see the ground. I stepped in a hole and twisted my ankle! A friend helped me to the hospital. It was very busy, so I stayed in a plastic chair for three hours before a doctor finally saw me. On the way home, I walked into the local chemist’s to get some tablets to stop the terrible feeling. My mum gave me a warm towel for it, not ice. Sadly, I missed my cousin’s birthday party!

Recovering with Hot Tea

Oliver

When my stomach hurts right after my evening meal, I always make a cup of peppermint tea. I can’t drink it quickly, though. I have to leave the hot water in the cup for at least ten minutes before it is perfect. I don’t put apples or lemons inside because I prefer just the tea leaves. Some people like to take their drink upstairs and sleep, but I usually sit in a comfortable chair in the living room until the pain stops.

Mia

Whenever I have a tummy ache, my dad boils the water and makes my favourite ginger tea for me. He doesn’t make me wait; he brings it to me very fast! We don’t use tea bags from big supermarkets. We always get the leaves from a little store on our street. To make the drink taste nicer, I cut up a lemon and drop the yellow slices into the water. Sometimes I mix in a little sugar too, which really helps my body feel normal again.

Lucas

If my stomach feels bad during the day, I never drink tea immediately. I stop eating food completely. Later, I prepare a warm cup of green tea by myself. My mum often offers to do it, but I say no! Then, I go upstairs, get under my blankets, and slowly finish the hot drink there. My brother loves putting honey in his mug, but I never do that. Having anything with sugar in it just gives me more pain!
