A Terrible Toothache
Alice
I was having my dinner and biting into a hard apple when my mouth suddenly started hurting terribly! I called the clinic I have used since I was a child. When I arrived, the room was completely full. I sat there reading magazines for nearly an hour before they finally called my name! The dentist checked my mouth and fixed the worst part. Luckily, it stopped hurting immediately, so I left without needing anything from the pharmacy. However, he didn’t finish everything today. He told me to come back next Thursday so he can look at the rest of my teeth.
Ben
A terrible pain in my tooth woke me up at midnight, and it felt awful. I called my regular dentist the next morning, but I couldn’t get a time to see him until Friday! While I was walking to the building, my hands were shaking. I have always been really afraid of sitting in that chair! Fortunately, the doctor was very kind. He repaired my mouth quickly. Before I went home, he wrote a note for some special pills. He told me to buy them from the chemist and take them if my mouth starts hurting again.
Carla
Yesterday morning, my bad tooth was causing me so much trouble. Because I recently moved to a different city, I didn’t know anyone to call. I searched the internet, found a place near my house, and they told me to walk over right away! I wasn’t worried at all because everyone there was so friendly, and they saw me at exactly the correct time. The doctor cleaned the tooth, and the pain disappeared completely. He said my smile is brilliant now, and I won’t need to see him again this year!

Sports Accidents

I love skateboarding. Last month, I was practising a hard jump at the park. It was a beautiful sunny day, not raining at all. Sadly, I fell off and my arm hit the hard ground. I felt a terrible pain right away and knew something was very wrong! My dad put me in his car and took me straight to the medical centre. The worst part wasn’t the pain, though. It was the fact that I couldn’t go to the national skating competition the following week. I was so disappointed!
Maya
I play football for my school. Two weeks ago, we had an afternoon game. It was pouring with rain, and the grass was very wet. I slipped in the mud and fell on my leg. At the time, I just thought it was a small problem, so I tried to stand up. My coach called an ambulance to take me to the hospital, so my mum didn’t have to drive me. Luckily, there wasn’t a special tournament coming up. Now, I sit on the grass every Saturday to support my group during their matches.
Leo
Basketball is my life. During a fast game, I jumped for the ball and landed badly on my arm. The doctors said I needed an operation, so I couldn’t go home that evening and stayed there until the next morning in a hospital bed. I felt terrible! My friends often invite me to see their games, but it makes me too sad to just sit and watch them play. The doctor told me I can return to the court in January. It feels like a very long time to be away from my favourite hobby.

Visiting the School Nurse
Jack
Yesterday, I fell on the grass while playing football in the playground. My trousers and shirt were covered in mud! I walked to the nurse by myself. I was shaking and really worried because I thought my leg was broken. The nurse was very kind. She checked my knee and said I was fine, but I must rest and avoid playing football or running until Monday. She didn’t give me any medicine or cold packs, just a small bandage. After ten minutes, I felt better and stayed at school for the rest of my lessons.
Ruby
I tripped on the playground steps today. It hurt a lot, so my best friend Sarah held my arm and walked with me to the medical room. I wasn’t scared at all because the nurse is always nice. She looked at my ankle and told me to sit down. She offered me a sweet, but no drinks. After an hour, my foot still hurt, so she called my mum to come and collect me. I missed my afternoon classes, but I hope to be back for the big sports match tomorrow!
Omar
While I was running outside, I fell and hit my arm on the hard ground. My clothes were completely clean, but my elbow really hurt! I went straight to the nurse alone. First, she gave me a cup of cold water because it was a very hot day. Then, she took something from the fridge and placed it on my arm to stop the pain. I sat there for twenty minutes until I felt okay. The nurse told me I didn’t need to go home, so I went back to my maths lesson. I can still play basketball later!
