Active Video Games

Liam

I love playing sports games on my TV screen. Last weekend, I went shopping and paid for the newest tennis game. It is very fun, but my favourite is actually a game where you have to step and jump to fast pop songs. I get very hot and my legs hurt when I play for an hour. My parents go to a sports centre, but I prefer staying in my bedroom. I don’t play with my brother because he prefers sitting down and playing car games.

Noah

I usually play football outside with my friends, but when it is wet and cold, I stay inside and turn on my video game console. I play boxing and running games in my living room. It is quite difficult and I always sweat a lot! I think doing this is much nicer than paying to lift heavy things at a health club. Since I started doing this kind of exercise every evening, I have no problems closing my eyes at night and getting a long rest. My arms don’t hurt, but my feet do!

Emma

I don’t really like listening to pop tracks, so I don’t play dance games. Instead, I really enjoy the climbing and swimming games on my machine. I usually invite my mum, dad and younger sister to hold the controllers and join in with me. We have a great time and laugh a lot. The swimming game is very hard work because you have to move your hands very fast. The next day, the top halves of my body are always very painful! I have not bought any new games this year.

Entering a Local E-sports Tournament

Kevin

I found out about this gaming competition from a poster at my school, but my partners are actually guys from my basketball club. Signing up wasn’t free, but everyone in my group gave a few pounds, so it was fine. If we get first place, we don’t receive cash. Instead, they will give the winners an amazing modern keyboard, which I really need! To look like a real group on the day, we are all going to put on black T-shirts with our player names on the back.

Lara

I am normally into driving cars in video games, so trying to win a digital football match is very new to me! I usually just play in my bedroom, but for this event, we have to sit on a stage in the town hall. I feel quite scared because lots of teenagers will be looking at us while we play. My team only practises for an hour after lunch because we get too tired if we play in the dark. If we win the top cash prize, we will buy some new headphones.

Diego

When I heard about this local tournament, I quickly asked three boys from my math class to join me. We didn’t have to buy a ticket to take part, which was awesome because I have no money right now! Because we all have lots of homework, we can only turn on our computers and train together at about 11 p.m. every evening. I know some players hate having a big audience, but I can’t wait for everyone to watch us. I always play much better when people are shouting my name!

Using Virtual Reality for the First Time

Leo

I tried a VR headset for the first time at home. My uncle bought one for his birthday and brought it over. I chose a game where you fly high in the sky like a bird. It was so exciting! However, I couldn’t see the real world around me, so my leg crashed into my bedroom desk. Ouch! Also, when I finally took the machine off my face after an hour, my stomach felt a bit strange and my head hurt. Next time, I will sit down on a chair while I play.

Mia

I went to a new technology center in town last weekend with my friends. We paid a few pounds to test some VR machines. I chose a program about swimming under the water. I got really close to big fish and green turtles! The device was quite light and soft on my face. I stood in a large empty hall, so I didn’t hit anything. I really want to have one of these machines in my living room, but you need a lot of cash to get one right now.

Sam

My brother got a VR headset for a cheap price online. Yesterday, he let me use it. The pictures were fantastic, and I felt perfectly fine while looking at the digital world. However, the machine was very heavy. It pushed hard on my nose, and my neck got tired quickly. I played a racing game, but after twenty minutes, my dad told me to turn it off so we could have dinner. I was quite angry because I needed ten more minutes to win the race!
