Designing a Website

Tom

For my IT project, I made a website about my local football team. I didn’t write the computer code myself because I thought it would be too hard. Instead, I used a free program online. It gives you pages that are already built, and you just put your information in. I worked with a classmate, and we spent a lot of time taking photos at the matches to put on our site. We got a very good mark for it!

Sarah

I wanted to build my website with no help from special programs. I learned how to write the code by watching lots of videos on the internet. It took a long time, but it was really fun to see it working. My website is a blog about my favourite cakes and recipes. I wanted to make sure it was easy to read on a smartphone, not just on a big computer screen. My teacher really loved the bright colours I used.

David

My older brother is a web designer, so I asked him to give me some tips for my school project. He showed me how to choose the right colours and fonts so the text is clear to read. My website is about different history video games. The most difficult thing was typing the text for each page, so I did it very slowly. I didn’t use any real pictures because I prefer to use my own drawings instead.

Reading Classic Literature

Lucas

For our English class, I chose a very famous adventure story. When I started, it was quite hard to follow because the writer used words we don’t say today. But after a few days, I really enjoyed it! I didn’t want to spend money on the book, so I just went to the local library and took it out for free. My brother told me to download it on my tablet, but I prefer turning real paper pages, not looking at a device. The story was brilliant, and I’m definitely going to look for other novels he wrote.

Sophie

I had to read a popular romance novel for literature. My aunt gave me some money for my birthday, so I bought a digital copy and downloaded it onto my tablet. It was so easy to carry around in my school bag! It was actually quite a short story, which was great. To make it more fun, my mother and I looked at a few chapters every evening before bed. She explained the history of the characters to me. We haven’t seen the movie yet, but we are hoping to watch the DVD this weekend!

Jamal

My teacher gave me a classic mystery novel to read. I paid for my own copy at the bookshop in town. I already knew the ending because I viewed the cinema version with my friends last year. Even though the story was great, it took me a month to finish because it was incredibly heavy and had hundreds of sections. I was so tired by the end! Because it took so much of my free time, I don’t think I will buy anything else by this author. I prefer modern stories that I can finish in a weekend.

Borrowing Books from the School Library

Harry

Our school library has hundreds of great books. Last week, I looked for a special maths textbook because that class is not easy for me. Thankfully, this book explains everything clearly. However, another student had it first, so I couldn’t take it home until Friday! A librarian said I should check the computer next time to see what is available. I usually do my homework at my house, but I love sitting on the comfortable library sofas to read. The maths book is quite thick, but it is not difficult to carry.

Sarah

I visited the library yesterday because I have to study for my science exam next week. I found a brilliant biology textbook very quickly, so I didn’t need to ask anyone for assistance. The best thing was that nobody had ever opened it before! The pages were so clean and perfect. Science is quite a simple subject for me, but the colorful pictures in this book make it even more interesting. I took it back to my bedroom to read. It’s quite small, which is great for my backpack.

Tom

I often visit the large school library after my classes finish. Actually, I prefer doing my work at a quiet table there rather than in my bedroom. Yesterday, I needed a French dictionary for a translation project. I didn’t know the right section, but the friendly woman at the desk showed me exactly where to look. She gave me a very old edition. It is a fantastic book, but it is really hard to carry in my bag because it has so many pages! I will return it tomorrow.
