Acting in a Funny School Play

Lucas

We did a comedy about a crazy hospital in drama class. I played a doctor. I usually feel worried before a show, but this time I was quite calm. For my costume, I used a large white coat that my uncle gave me. I didn’t have many words to learn, so I remembered everything easily. Before the show, I spent hours painting the hospital beds and doors. I loved doing that! When we finished acting, the people watching smiled and clapped a lot, so I’m sure it was a huge success.

Chloe

Our play was about a holiday that goes wrong. I asked the teacher if I could be the angry hotel manager, but he told me to play a lazy tourist instead. It was actually a really fun part! I bought a silly hat from a shop for my costume. I didn’t ask my parents for their clothes. I knew all my sentences perfectly. However, when I stood behind the curtains waiting to start, my hands were shaking. Luckily, I was fine later. Some actors found the play very funny, but I managed not to smile at all!

Finn

We acted in a funny story about a terrible restaurant. I was the chef. The background looked amazing, but I was too busy reading my script to help build it. During the play, another actor dropped a plate of plastic food on my foot. It was so silly that I started to laugh and I just couldn’t stop myself. Because of that, my mind went blank and I couldn’t remember my next sentence at all! I just had to make something up. The people watching were very quiet, so I have no idea if they liked our performance!

Reading Together

Oliver

I think reading with a partner is a great idea. At school, the teacher usually puts us in pairs, and we always try to do a good job. Some texts are quite uninteresting, but working with my friend makes it better. We never spend hours on our reading homework anymore. In fact, we usually get to the end of the pages much faster when we share the work. The best part is that we love chatting about the heroes and villains in the books. It is nice to hear someone else’s opinion about what they did!

Chloe

I am happiest when the teacher lets me choose my classmate for reading tasks. I always pick my best friend. We sometimes take a long time to read a story, and we don’t look at the photos in the book much. However, if there is a difficult phrase I haven’t seen before, she always tells me what it means. Because we check everything together before we give it to the teacher, my school work has improved a lot. I definitely get higher marks now than when I did the reading by myself!

Noah

I am not very good at reading long articles alone. It is usually quite uninteresting, but with a classmate, it is exciting and I don’t fall asleep. My current partner doesn’t like talking much about the characters in the story, but he has a brilliant way of helping me. Whenever I am confused about what is happening, he draws small shapes and action scenes on a piece of paper. Seeing it like that makes the information so clear! Also, we almost never need to use a dictionary because we can guess what things mean together.

Biology Class Documentaries

Alex

In biology, our teacher showed us a film about rainforests. It was full of information, so I used my pen and notebook to keep a list of the most important facts. We have a big test next week, and I need to pass it! I prefer getting my information from books, though, because I can read at my own speed. The video we saw was well over an hour, and I started to feel a bit bored before it finally finished. I don’t really watch things like this after school, as I prefer playing video games.

Ben

We watched a great show about the African desert yesterday. Seeing the real animals is much more fun than just looking at the pages of our science books. I understand how things work much faster this way! However, one part of the film made me quite unhappy. It showed how hot weather is destroying the animals’ homes. I didn’t write anything down for our exam because I couldn’t stop looking at the screen. The desert looks like an amazing environment, and I really hope to go there on holiday one day, maybe instead of the beach!

Chloe

My class saw a really interesting documentary about dolphins and sharks. It was amazing to see how they survive underwater. Some of my classmates thought the film didn’t end fast enough, but I loved every minute of it! It wasn’t sad at all; it was actually very funny because the sea creatures did some silly things. Now that I know how great these films are, I am going to search the internet this weekend to find other similar shows. I want to learn as much as possible!
