Favorite Historical Figures
Leo
We learned about Marco Polo in history this term. I couldn’t believe the number of different countries he visited hundreds of years ago! It was amazing to find out about his long journeys. We had to write a story about him for class. I didn’t get a very high score for it, but I still enjoyed it. I was so interested that I went to the library on the weekend and borrowed a big book to learn more about his life. He faced many problems on his trips, but I think only soldiers are truly brave.
Maya
My favorite person from our history lessons is Amelia Earhart. She flew planes all over the world. I hope to learn how to fly one day and work as a pilot too! I watched a television program about her, but I haven’t bought any books about her yet. Everyone knows her flights were dangerous, but she was never afraid. Next summer, my parents are taking me on a holiday to America. We are going to see the town where she grew up! She is a hero to me, just like the doctors in my city who help ill people.
Toby
In my class, we studied Florence Nightingale. She was a famous nurse a long time ago. She changed hospitals and worked hard to make ill patients feel better again. I would hate to work in a hospital, though, because I don’t like seeing blood! I worked really hard on my homework poster about her life. My teacher loved it and gave me an ‘A’ grade! She lived in Italy when she was young. It looks beautiful in photos, but I prefer going to the beach in Spain for my holidays.

Friday PE Classes
Liam
Our Friday sports lesson is amazing. We spend the whole hour playing basketball. Last year I wasn’t very good, but I can score a lot of points now! Some students say the lesson feels too long when we run, but I enjoy every minute. It is a great way to stop worrying about hard subjects like maths and history. By the end of the week, my brain needs a break. I am never sleepy after we play. In fact, running around the sports hall gives me a lot of energy for the weekend.
Noah
I am not a big fan of our Friday PE lessons. The teacher always tells us exactly what we have to do. In the autumn, we played hockey. But these days, we are doing gymnastics. I am not very good at it, and it makes my arms and legs ache. I have no energy left when it finishes! Friday afternoon is a bad time for such a hard class because we are already exhausted from the week. I would really prefer to have it on a Tuesday or Wednesday instead.
Emma
Friday is absolutely the best day for PE! We usually have a huge science test right before it, so it is wonderful to get out of the classroom. The best part is that our instructor asks us what we want to play, and the class can decide together. We usually pick volleyball or tennis. The lesson is an hour long, but it is so much fun that it feels like only ten minutes! I always feel really active and happy when we walk back to the changing rooms.

School Art Projects
Oliver
I love our weekly art class. Some students take hours to finish their projects, but I never need much time. I usually complete mine in twenty minutes! My teacher says I should slow down. We can draw anything we want. I don’t paint trees or flowers like my classmates. I prefer to draw the people I live with, like my little brother or my grandfather. Sometimes I look at books to learn how to draw faces better, but the ideas are all my own.
Bella
For my art projects, I never draw on a tablet or laptop. Instead, I go to the park to collect leaves and small stones. I bring them to class and glue them to my paper. It takes a long time, so I am never quick. Then, I paint them. I don’t use green or brown; I paint the leaves pink or purple! It looks really different. I love my pictures, but I am not confident. When the teacher puts them on the wall for everyone to see, my stomach hurts a little.
Sam
Our art teacher is great because he lets us try new things. I am not good at using paint or pencils, so I make my art digitally using a mouse and keyboard. It is fun to build a picture this way. I often read stories about space or history, and then I imagine what those places look like. That’s how I decide what to make next. I always show my digital art to my parents. They never worry about what colors I use, they just say my work is fantastic.
