Reading Guidebooks Before a Trip

Oliver

I never spend money on travel books. Instead, I get them from the public library in my town. I usually read them at home, though. I don’t pack them in my suitcase because they weigh too much for my small bag. I mostly read the words and don’t care much about the images. Learning about the famous streets and museums before I travel makes me feel so happy. After I finish the last page, I really can’t wait for my holiday to begin!

Mia

I don’t visit the library before a trip. My best friend usually gives me her old travel books. When I read them, I always look for ones that are full of colorful photographs. Seeing what the beautiful buildings look like is my favorite part! I also love the special pages at the back that teach me how to say ‘hello’ and ‘thank you’. It is very useful when speaking with the people who live there. I download them on my phone too, so my bag is never full.

Carlos

Because information changes so fast, I always go to the shop and pay for a fresh copy before I fly somewhere. It is important to have the newest details. The first thing I check is the section on popular cafes and street markets. I really want to know where they serve the most delicious local meals! I already speak English and Spanish, so I never use the dictionary part to learn new words. My brother feels happy when reading them, but I just use them to plan my days.
