Washing the Family Car

Leo

Every Saturday, my younger sister and I have to wash our parents’ car in the garage. We do it together so it’s much faster. We don’t get any cash for it, but dad usually buys us a pizza later. I really hate doing it in winter because my hands freeze! I always wish we could use warm water. Last week, I dropped a large glass bottle of car shampoo and it smashed all over the floor. Dad wasn’t very happy about the mess.

Mia

Washing the car is my weekend job. I do it all by myself, but my dad gives me five pounds when I finish, so I don’t mind. I like making the outside shine, but sorting out the mess inside the car takes a lot longer and is much worse. I have to pick up old tickets and sweet papers from the bottom. I usually sing to myself because the old CD player in our garage is broken and makes a terrible noise.

Toby

I always clean our family car at seven o’clock on Sunday morning, before my parents get out of bed. It is very quiet then. To make the job fun, I put my headphones on and play my favorite rock band really loud. I always make sure I am very careful, because I don’t want to scratch the paint or break the mirrors. It gets quite warm in our garage, so playing with the cool water is actually quite nice!

Cooking Dinner and Cleaning Up

Leo

I really enjoy making dinner for my family on Fridays. I usually have all the food I need from the supermarket, so I never forget anything. However, I can’t do everything by myself. My dad always stands next to me and shows me exactly how to cut the vegetables and fry the chicken. When we finish eating, it is my job to wash all the pots and pans. I don’t mind doing it because I put my headphones on and play my favourite pop bands while I work. I also wear an old sweater, so my jeans stay completely clean!

Mia

Cooking is my favourite hobby, but I always take hours to prepare everything. Nobody in my family helps me, so I do it all alone. I never cook beef or chicken because we prefer eating healthy salads and vegetable pizzas instead. The only problem is that I am not very careful. By the time the food is ready, my favourite t-shirts are usually full of oil and tomato sauce! Tidying up is quite boring and takes a very long time. I don’t turn on the radio when I wash the bowls because the extra noise just gives me a headache.

Sam

Every Sunday, I am the chef in our house! I usually make roast beef or fish. I always write a list for the supermarket, but I still manage to leave one or two important things at the shop! I love playing loud songs on the computer while I am cooking the food. After the meal, the kitchen usually looks terrible. Luckily, making the room look nice again only takes about five minutes. I put the extra food away, and my older brother actually washes the dirty cups and forks. I never get my jumpers dirty because I am very careful.

Saturday Supermarket Trips

Toby

Every Saturday morning at 9 a.m., I help my parents by getting the food for the week. We always take the bus because the shop is too far away to leave the car at home. My ten-year-old sister usually travels with me so she can help carry the heavy bags. Mum gives me a list, and I am very careful to find every item on it. When we finish paying for the milk and bread, I always use some of the money to pick up a magazine or some sweets just for me. It is a nice way to end the trip!

Nina

Our house is very close to a large supermarket, so I just walk down the street to get there. I never need to catch a bus or a train. I usually go alone, without my older brother, because I prefer listening to my music while I look for things. I am very good at checking my dad’s list, so I never leave anything behind! The best thing about the shop is the bakery area. I always spend a lot of time there because the warm bread and cakes smell amazing. I don’t get anything extra for myself, though.

Leo

I do the weekly food shop on Saturdays after we finish our midday meal. Around three o’clock, the store is usually full of shoppers, which I really hate. You can never move your trolley fast, and you always have to wait in long lines to pay! Because it is so noisy, I often get a bit stressed. Sometimes I don’t remember to put an important item in my basket, like eggs or butter, and my dad has to go back on Sunday! I don’t buy any treats for myself because my parents only give me the exact cash for the family meals.
