A Relaxing Chore

Oliver

I love being in the garden behind our home. I spend hours outside every weekend, so I don’t keep any nature in my bedroom! The best part is picking fresh carrots and tomatoes to put in our evening meals. It is a brilliant hobby. Sometimes the dirt is heavy, but my eight-year-old sister always comes out to assist me with carrying the water. My grandfather gave me a beautiful red flower last week, so I didn’t have to buy it! I enjoy the sounds of the birds, so I never use my phone to play tracks while I work.

Mia

I don’t have a garden, so I keep all my beautiful green leaves and flowers in my living room and on my desk. Watching them grow makes me feel incredibly calm, especially when I need to stop thinking about my hard maths and history tests! My older brother thinks it is a boring chore and never touches the watering can. I like to get out of bed at six o’clock to check the soil before I have my morning cereal. It is the perfect quiet time. I’ve had the same pots for years, so nothing here is new.

Lucas

Watering the garden is my favourite chore, but I don’t grow any potatoes or fruit. I just love beautiful flowers! Yesterday, I went to the market and handed the shop assistant some of my pocket money for a tiny tree. I am so excited to watch it grow! I always do my chores after supper when the sun goes down, as I am too tired in the mornings. While I dig and water, I always put my headphones in and enjoy the latest songs from top rock bands. It is the best way to relax!

Fixing Things with Dad

Leo

Last weekend, the handle on my bedroom door broke. My dad and I decided to repair it. We didn’t need to go shopping for anything because Dad already has a big box of tools. While I was putting the metal pieces together, I cut my finger on a sharp edge. It wasn’t a bad injury, though! We didn’t look at the internet for instructions; my dad just knew what to do. It was quite simple. Now I understand exactly how the door works, so I can do it alone if it happens again. After we finished, we relaxed in the garden.

Max

My younger sister was very sad because the wheel came off her favourite toy car. Dad and I wanted to make her happy, so we fixed it. We weren’t sure how to put the small plastic parts together correctly, so we found a great channel on YouTube that explained it. It was much easier after that! We were very careful, so nobody got a cut or a scratch. When we finished, we went to the supermarket to buy my sister some sweets. Next time, Dad says I can try doing it completely by myself, but I think I will still ask for his help.

Sam

There was a bad storm last week, and the wooden gate in our garden fell down. Dad and I spent all of Sunday repairing it. First, we had to visit the local shop to get a special tool because we didn’t have the right one. I thought it would be a fast job, but I put one of the wooden pieces in the wrong way! We had to take it out and start again, which added another hour to our day. My dad actually found it quite funny. It was hard work, but we felt really proud when we finally finished it.

Morning Pet Chores

Alex

Every morning, my first job is to give my dog, Buster, his breakfast. I really hate opening the meat tins because the smell is terrible! Buster is a very careful eater, so he never leaves anything on the kitchen floor. After he eats, I pick up his sleeping blanket. I never wash it in the bathroom. Instead, I take it into the garden and use the water hose to wash it. My parents are usually still asleep, so I have to do all the work completely alone.

Jamie

Taking care of my cat, Luna, takes a long time. I always set my clock for 6:00 a.m. to give myself plenty of extra time before school starts. Luna loves her fish biscuits, but she is quite untidy and throws pieces all around her bowl. I have to sweep the floor every single day. I also wash her little bed in the sink. My mum buys my clothes, but I have to spend my weekly pocket money on Luna’s biscuits. Her food doesn’t have a bad odor, though!

Robin

I have a large white rabbit named Snow. Before breakfast, I give him some fresh carrots and green leaves. He eats very neatly, which is great! My older sister wakes up at the same time and she gives me a hand with brushing his fur. Then, it is time to tidy his wooden house. Before I got him, I thought changing the straw would be hard work. Actually, it is very quick and not difficult at all. I just throw the old straw away and put new stuff in. I do it in my bedroom, never in the yard.
