As a chemistry enthusiast, I’ve always been fascinated by volatile reactions, but my school lacks the facilities for anything too adventurous. That’s why I started using ChemSim. It’s an absolute game-changer because you can mix highly reactive elements without the slightest danger of blowing up the classroom! Our science teacher actually relies on it nowadays to demonstrate complex molecular bonds during our weekly lessons, which saves us a lot of time setting up equipment. The graphics are stunning, making it incredibly easy to visualise what is happening at a microscopic level. Having said that, there is a catch. While the basic package is free, the more advanced organic chemistry modules require a monthly subscription. I find that a bit frustrating, as it restricts access for students on a tight budget. Nevertheless, I’ve managed to get by with the standard version, and it has definitely deepened my understanding of chemical equations.

When I first logged on, I have to admit I found the control panel rather daunting; there were so many dials and graphs that I almost gave up. Otherwise, you miss out on the intricate visual data that makes the tool so effective.
