Transport and Vehicle Museums

A City Transit Museum

Explore how people travelled around the city decades ago with our fantastic display of historic double-decker coaches and trams. Kids will absolutely love the digital touchscreens and puzzle stations designed just for them. Don’t forget to stop by the visitor store to pick up something memorable for your friends!

C Sky High Exhibition

Discover the magic of flight! Our knowledgeable staff offer excellent walking trips around the exhibition, explaining the fascinating story of early aircraft and flying machines. Once you finish looking around, take a break at our lovely restaurant, which offers a fantastic, tasty menu entirely free of meat for plant-based diets.

D Ocean Explorers

Step onto real historical ships and experience life at sea! You can walk through the cabins and even sit on the sailors’ beds. It is an amazing experience for anyone who loves the water. Tickets are a set price for everyone, and we currently do not offer any cheaper educational rates.

E Flashback Motors

Grab your camera and get ready for some amazing snaps! We have beautifully restored classic cars and motorbikes that look fantastic through a lens. Our annual membership gives you endless entry for a whole year. Unfortunately, our railway section closed last month, so rail fans will have to look elsewhere.

F The Railway Hub

Step back in time and admire our huge collection of historic steam locomotives. Visitors are encouraged to bring their cameras, as the display areas are designed to help you capture the perfect shot. If you live locally, grab our 12-month pass so you can visit as many times as you like!

G The Coach Collection

See the wonderful public transport of the past, including some beautifully painted coaches that drove through London in the 1950s. Our fantastic gift shop sells books, postcards, and models. Please note that our displays are for looking only, so young ones might find the traditional glass cases a bit boring.

H Maritime History Centre

If you are fascinated by the ocean, come view our incredible sailing vessels. Unlike other places, we actually allow guests to climb aboard and take a seat at the captain’s wheel! If you are in full-time education, show your university card at the entrance to pay a lower entry fee.

1   Sarah wants to use real equipment to look at the sky. She is fascinated by how the first astronauts travelled. She also plans to spend the whole day there, so she needs somewhere to buy a hot meal.

2   Tom enjoys modern technology and wants to wear a headset to experience space. He wants to learn about the planets closest to Earth and prefers being in a peaceful environment with very low lighting.

3   Mia is bringing her five-year-old daughter, who loves touching things and playing games. She wants to buy a poster to take home. She is driving there, so she must have a place to leave her car.

5   Anna is very interested in the science of black holes and how they work. She is a student with no money, so she cannot pay to enter. She also needs a building without any stairs.

Space and Astronomy Exhibits

A The Night Sky Observatory

Open only from 8 p.m. until midnight, this is the perfect place to explore the universe. An experienced scientist will walk with you and explain how to identify famous shapes made by the stars. You will learn the names of these bright lights and hear ancient stories about them.

B The Discovery Centre

Get up close to original rockets from the 1960s and discover the amazing stories of early space explorers. Afterwards, visitors can step outside to use our powerful viewing instruments to observe the moon closely. When you finally get hungry, our spacious restaurant serves delicious hot dishes and snacks all afternoon.

C The Science Hub

This modern, single-level building is completely flat inside, making it extremely easy for everyone to move around. Here, you will discover the mysteries of deep space and understand those dangerous areas where gravity pulls everything inside. The best part is that you don’t need to buy a ticket to enter!

D The Planetarium

Bring the whole family to use our modern outdoor lenses! We have plenty of space for your car outside. Unfortunately, we don’t have a café, so please bring a picnic. The exhibition mostly focuses on how stars die, which is interesting but might be difficult for very young children to understand.

E Galaxy World

Step into our completely unlit, silent zone and let your mind relax. By putting on our special computer glasses, you will feel like you are actually flying past Mars, Venus and Jupiter. It is the perfect way to understand the closest worlds to our own without leaving your comfortable seat.

F Space Adventure

Put on our digital headsets and travel straight into a terrifying black hole! This is an extremely loud, fast and exciting digital experience, full of bright flashing lights. Tickets are £15 per person, and the exhibition is located on the second floor, which is only reached by climbing steep steps.

G Astronomy Today

Join our daily morning tours, led by professional astronomers. They will teach you all about the famous patterns of stars and how sailors used them to travel. Please note that the centre closes at 4 p.m., so you cannot look at the actual night sky during your visit here.

H Little Astronauts

This lively exhibition is perfectly designed for small kids. They can press buttons, build plastic spaceships, and try on colourful helmets. Before you leave, visit our fantastic store to get great souvenirs, including books and pictures.
