The Teenager Studying the Science of Cars
Seventeen-year-old Kevin has always loved cars. Next month, he has an important physics project for school. His classmates are writing about airplanes and trains, but Kevin wanted to do something different. He decided to compare the automotive specifications of two luxury cars: a BMW and a Porsche.
Kevin spent his weekend on the internet. He didn’t look at the prices of the cars. Instead, he collected numbers about their top speeds and how heavy they are. His science teacher, Mr. Davies, thought this was a brilliant idea. However, he told Kevin that he had to clearly explain why one car can go faster than the other.
During his research, Kevin found some interesting facts. He compared a large BMW with a smaller Porsche Macan. He learned that the BMW has a much larger engine. But because the Porsche is lighter, it can increase its speed more quickly. Kevin drew colorful charts to show this information to his class.
On the day of the presentation, Kevin was quite nervous. But his classmates listened carefully and asked lots of questions. In the end, he got the best mark in the class.
