David’s Global Teaching Dream
Sixteen-year-old David loves learning about different countries and their cultures. However, travelling to other places is usually very expensive for a high school student. Because of this, David has found a clever way to see the world in the future. He wants to visit different countries by teaching his native language, English, to young students there.
David knows that being a good teacher is not an easy job. To practice, he currently helps his younger brother with his school homework every afternoon. Also, twice a week, David helps out at a local club. There, he helps adults from other countries practice their English speaking skills. He thinks this is fantastic preparation for his future travels.
Of course, David still needs money to pay for his plane tickets. He works in a busy supermarket every Saturday and Sunday to earn cash. Some of his friends spend their weekend money on computer games or fashionable clothes, but David puts everything he earns straight into his bank account. He knows it will take a long time to save enough, but he doesn’t mind.
David’s parents are very proud of his hard work and big dreams. Next summer, he is going to spend four weeks in Italy at a special teaching camp. David’s Language Learning System
Sixteen-year-old David loves learning languages. He already speaks Spanish and German perfectly. However, he noticed a big problem at his secondary school. The language lessons were often messy, and the students always forgot the new vocabulary before their exams. David felt sad that his classmates didn’t enjoy learning languages.
David decided to build a special language program to help his school. He talked to his favourite teacher, Mr. Black. Mr. Black thought it was an excellent idea, but he told David to make it simple. So, David spent his weekends writing down different ideas instead of playing football with his friends.
Building the system was quite difficult. David had to read several books about how the human brain remembers words. After that, he used his laptop to create vocabulary lists, simple grammar games, and listening tests. He gave the program to his friends to try. They played the games and thought they were fantastic.
Now, all the language teachers at David’s school use his learning system. The students’ test marks are much better, and they really enjoy their lessons. David is very proud of his work. Next year, he hopes to visit other schools in his city and share his computer program with them too.
