Winter Stays in Bangkok

David

I spent three months in Bangkok last winter. The most important thing for me was having a pool because I love exercising in the water every morning. My windows faced another building, so there wasn’t much to see, but my apartment was far from the busy streets, so it was peaceful at night. It was also wonderful for travel, as it was only a two-minute walk to the metro stop. I didn’t want to spend time making food, so I ate out every day. It didn’t cost a lot because the rent was very cheap.

Sarah

I rented a room in Bangkok for a month. The street outside was very loud all night because of the traffic, but the building was nice. There was a beautiful swimming pool on the roof, but it was always closed. The trains were very far away, so I had to take taxis everywhere. The apartment had a small kitchen, so I made all my dinners there. This helped me keep my costs down. I also enjoyed practicing my Thai with the staff; I took lessons before my trip, so I talked to them in their own language.

Marta

I chose an apartment in the center of Bangkok for my winter holiday. My flat was on the 30th floor, and I loved looking at the beautiful buildings of Bangkok from my bedroom window. I wanted to swim, but the building didn’t have a pool. I looked for an apartment near the underground station, but they were all full. I never used the kitchen because the local food markets were so good. However, the price was higher than I thought it would be when I got the bill, so I spent too much.

Holiday Resort Swimming Pools

Lucas

I love the main pool at our hotel. It is perfect for relaxing because the staff put on great pop songs all day. I usually lie on a sunbed and enjoy the sounds. If I get hungry, there is a small café just steps away that sells amazing sandwiches and ice cream. I never have to leave the area for lunch! The water is actually quite cool, which is refreshing when the sun is hot. Unfortunately, we have to get out at 6 p.m. before it gets dark.

Sophie

The pool at my family’s resort is fantastic. Because the hotel heats it, it feels like having a hot bath. You can jump straight in without feeling freezing! It drops over two metres to the bottom, so my older brother and I can safely jump into it from the side. Also, they leave the big lights on, allowing us to swim under the stars. It is usually very quiet with only a few guests around. We don’t get any food there because the restaurant is too far away.

Mateo

Our holiday resort has a brilliant swimming area. I took a few classes with the instructor there, and now I can move through the water much faster than before. The only problem is that hundreds of guests want to use it, so there is hardly any space to move! It is quite shallow, so my little sister is completely safe, but diving is not allowed. There aren’t any speakers playing tracks, so you just hear the noise of happy children splashing around.

Our Friendly Hotel Staff in Tokyo

Liam

The people working at our Tokyo hotel were so kind. When I first walked through the front doors, it was very hot outside, and a friendly woman immediately handed me a nice glass of fruit juice. I had a lot of heavy bags, but I took them to the lift myself. Later, I noticed the shower in my bathroom wasn’t working. I called the desk, and a man came up and fixed it straight away. The next morning, I couldn’t find my sunglasses. I was quite worried, but the cleaner discovered them under the bed and gave them back to me!

Noah

I loved staying at our hotel in Japan. The staff were brilliant because they spoke perfect English, which was great as I don’t know any Japanese words at all! When my taxi arrived, a young man ran outside and carried my big suitcases all the way up the stairs to my room. I wanted to explore the city, but I didn’t understand the subway map. The receptionist spent twenty minutes explaining the underground trains so I wouldn’t go the wrong way. The only bad thing was that I dropped my phone and broke the screen, but that was my fault!

Emma

The hotel employees made our summer trip to Tokyo very special. I really wanted to learn the local words, so I tried to say ‘hello’ and ‘thank you’ every day. The workers always listened carefully and taught me new phrases. One evening, I asked them about good places for dinner. They told me about a fantastic noodle place on the next street, which was much cheaper than the hotel food. We had a nice cup of green tea there. I was a bit sad when I left my jacket at the restaurant, but I just bought a new one.
