Helping an Animal Charity Online

Seventeen-year-old Sarah has an interesting weekend job. While her classmates work in cafés or shops, Sarah volunteers for a local animal charity called ‘Happy Paws’. She doesn’t clean the animal cages or feed the dogs. Instead, she manages the charity’s social media pages. Sarah loves animals, but she can’t have a pet because her mother is allergic to them, so this is the perfect way to help.

When Sarah first started three months ago, things were difficult. The charity only had a Facebook page, and only fifty people followed it. Most of those people were the volunteers’ friends and families. Sarah knew they needed to reach younger people. So, she opened an Instagram account and started taking beautiful photos of the cats and dogs that needed homes.

Soon, things began to change. Sarah posted a funny video of a small puppy playing with a ball. A few days later, the video had thousands of views! Because of her online posts, many teenagers started visiting the shelter to help. Other people sent money or brought dog food.

Sarah is really happy about her work. The charity has found homes for over thirty animals this month, which is a new record.
