Washing New Clothes

Ruby

I never put on anything straight from the shopping centre. If I wear a brand new dress, my arms and legs get red spots. It really hurts! So, I always clean my shopping immediately. Another reason is that factory material is usually quite hard. After it goes through the machine, it is much softer and better to have on. My brother never washes his new jeans, but I also do it because I love the sweet perfume of my family’s washing powder. It makes the items feel like mine!

Jack

When you buy a t-shirt, it often brings horrible chemicals from the factory. My nose really can’t stand it! Because of that, everything goes straight into the water before I put it on. I don’t care if people tried the items on in the store, I just want them to be fresh. Also, I always buy my jeans and jumpers one size too big. When I use a hot wash to clean them, they get a little shorter. It’s the best way to make them fit perfectly! My dad thinks I am crazy, but it works.

Sofia

I started washing my brand new things many years ago. My mother told me it was an important rule, and I always follow her advice. I don’t do it to change how big a sweater is. The real reason is that hundreds of shoppers walk around the mall every day. You never know who touched that jacket or stood in the changing room with it! So, the items are not actually clean when you pay for them. Getting rid of that dirt is very important to me.

Borrowing Clothes for the Party

Lily

Everything in my cupboard is black or gray, and I want to look more exciting for the party! So, I asked Mia for help. She is letting me use her beautiful red skirt. Mia is a lot taller than me, so I hope it isn’t going to touch the floor when I walk. I bought some nice new shoes yesterday, so I am ready for the weekend. I will wash Mia’s skirt carefully next week before I give it back to her.

Mia

I am excited about Saturday night! I always knew I wanted to wear my favorite blue jeans and a simple t-shirt. However, I cannot find my comfortable boots anywhere, so I asked Chloe for her black trainers. I just hope my feet fit in them! I am also letting Lily take my long red skirt because she has nothing fun to wear. The event is on Saturday evening, and I will take Chloe’s trainers back to her house the very next morning.

Chloe

At first, I wanted to go to the party in trousers and a warm sweater. But after thinking about it, I prefer to look a bit more beautiful. Lily is letting me borrow her brand-new, pale yellow dress. It is a lovely color, but I must make sure I do not drop any food or drink on it! It fits perfectly, so I am not worried about the size. I will bring the dress to school on Monday to return it to Lily.

School Uniforms vs. Own Clothes

Max

I prefer wearing my own clothes because the school uniform material isn’t soft against my skin at all. It can feel quite uncomfortable. However, one good thing is that I don’t spend ages deciding what to put on each morning. I just wake up and put on the standard trousers and shirt. My mum likes the uniform because it wasn’t expensive. Unfortunately, I fell outside during lunch yesterday and made a huge hole in the trousers! Now she has to buy me another pair.

Lily

At the weekend, I love picking out bright pink and yellow dresses from my bedroom cupboard. It is fun to wear my own clothes and show everyone what I like. But for school days, I am glad we wear the exact same things as our classmates. It is great because nobody worries about who has the best jacket or shoes. Some kids say the school shirts are rough, but mine feel perfectly fine. Choosing weekend outfits takes me hours!

Omar

I don’t really enjoy wearing our school uniform. The colours are just boring black and white. Also, when July arrives, the thick grey jumpers make me feel far too warm! I would definitely be much cooler in a simple t-shirt. Even so, my parents prefer the uniform. They explain that if we wore our own outfits every day, it would be a problem. Brand new jeans and modern trainers have very high prices, so wearing uniforms saves them cash.
