A Little Library on Our Street

My name is Lily, and I am thirteen years old. I have always loved reading. Last month, I realised I had too many books in my bedroom. I didn’t want to throw them away. Then, I saw an interesting idea on the internet about a small neighborhood library and decided to start one.

First, I looked in our family garage and found an old wooden box. I asked my dad for some help, and together we painted it bright yellow. When it was dry, we put it on the front wall of our house. Finally, I chose ten of my favourite old books and put them inside the box.

For the first two days, nobody took a book. I felt quite disappointed because I thought people didn’t like my idea. But on Wednesday afternoon, an old lady stopped, took a story about a brave dog, and left a cookery book instead. After that, many other people started doing the same thing.

Now, my yellow box is always full of exciting new stories. Every day after school, I run outside to see what people have left. Because of the library, I often talk to neighbors that I didn’t know before. I feel extremely happy that my simple idea has brought everyone in our street together.

My Wonderful Village Life

Hi, I’m Leo! I am fifteen years old and I live in a small village called Greenwood. Two years ago, my parents and I lived in a busy city. It was always noisy and there was a lot of traffic. Moving to Greenwood was a big change, but now I think it is the best place for a teenager to live.

The greatest thing about living here is the friendly people. In the city, we didn’t know our neighbours. Here, everybody knows my family. When I walk to school in the morning, people always smile and say hello. If someone needs help with their garden or pets, the neighbours always come to help. It feels very safe.

Some of my friends from the city think village life is boring because we don’t have large shopping centres. However, I never feel bored. I spend a lot of time outside in nature. At the weekends, I ride my bike through the beautiful forests or go fishing in the river. The quiet environment is also perfect when I have to do my school homework.

Of course, there are a few things I miss. We don’t have a cinema, so I have to catch a bus to the town to watch new films. But I don’t mind at all. Life in Greenwood is peaceful, healthy, and happy. I definitely want to stay here for a long time!

How does Leo feel about his home now?

     (A) He believes it is an excellent location for a young person.

     (B) He thinks it is a busy city with a lot of traffic.

     (C) He wants to move because it was a big change.

What does Leo say about his free time?

     (A) He enjoys doing outdoor activities.

What does Leo have to do to watch new movies?

The Street Football Match

My name is Jamie, and I am fifteen years old. I live on a long street with many houses. There are a lot of children who live here, but they usually stay inside. They prefer playing video games or watching television in their bedrooms. They never really play together.

Last month, I decided to change this. I love sports, so I wanted to organize a big football game for everyone. I walked down the street and knocked on every door. I invited all the kids to the local park for a match on Saturday afternoon. Some parents thought it was a great idea and promised to bring some drinks and sandwiches.

When Saturday arrived, I was very surprised. More than twenty kids came to the park! We made two teams and played for two hours. It wasn’t a serious competition, and nobody cared about winning. We just ran around and had a lot of fun. Even the youngest children played very well.

After the match, we all sat on the grass and enjoyed the food from the parents. The kids talked, laughed, and made new friends. Since that day, we have a football game every single weekend. Our street is much friendlier now, and I am very happy I organized that first match.
