Emma’s Village Video
Fifteen-year-old Emma loves making videos. Last week, she went on a trip to a small mountain village with her family. Her media teacher gave the class some interesting homework. They had to create a short documentary. Emma decided to record the local people, but she felt quite nervous about speaking to strangers.
On her first morning, Emma met an old farmer near her hotel. He was very friendly and smiled a lot. He told Emma about his life and how the village has changed over the last fifty years. She used her new camera to record the conversation. He even gave her a basket of fresh apples to take home!
In the afternoon, Emma visited a busy bakery. The baker was happy to help with her school project. She showed Emma how to make traditional bread. Emma filmed the baker working and then asked her a few questions. The shop was noisy, so it was a little difficult to hear the answers, but the video looked fantastic.
By the end of the holiday, Emma felt completely different. She had an amazing time and she wasn’t nervous anymore. She learned that people are usually very happy to talk if you are polite. Recording the Night Market
My name is Mia and I am sixteen years old. I love travelling with my parents, but I have a very unusual hobby. I make a podcast called “World Sounds”. Instead of taking photos on holiday, I prefer recording different noises. Yesterday, we arrived in Thailand, and I wanted to record the sounds of a busy night market.
When we went to the market in the evening, it was very crowded. It was difficult to walk because there were hundreds of people. I walked past the small food stalls and turned on my microphone. I recorded the loud noise of people talking and the sound of meat cooking in hot oil. It was fantastic!
Later, I heard some beautiful music. I followed the sound and saw an old man. He was playing a traditional drum. The music was very different from anything I knew. I asked him if I could record his music. He didn’t speak English, but he smiled and nodded. I stood very quietly and recorded the whole song.
At midnight, I went back to my hotel room. I put my headphones on and listened to all the audio on my laptop. The recording of the drum is my favourite part. I am going to put the new podcast episode on the internet tomorrow. I hope my listeners will enjoy it!
